High Expectations:
Every Scholar, Every Day
A Word from Principal Haynes
Greetings Parents,
I hope that the Thanksgiving Break was a time of togetherness for you and your family/friends. As we move into the holiday season, let's remind our scholars to stay focused and on point with the work they have to do. We are aiming to move this school to a "B" this school year, but we need everyone to work together to make it happen!! That "B" is not going to be handed to us, we will have to WORK very hard to get there.
Please develop a strong relationship with your child's teacher to see how you can partner with us to be a part of the process. Our scholars are willing and eager, but we have to constantly hold them to fire! Our school can be a PREMIER school in Broward County IF we have that expectation that our scholars can do it. Let's put Village in the record books to make this happen.
Please join us for the Honor Roll assemblies this week if your child made Honor Roll (you should have received a letter). You may ONLY enter the school off 70th Avenue and you must sign in to come on campus. Also, the PTA/SAC Meeting is Tuesday night at 6:15PM!! Please join us!! This meeting will NOT be a long one!!
Let's make this another great week of High Expectations--Every Scholar--Every Day!!!
Wishing you an AMAZING and BLESSED week!!

Introducing our School Psychologist
By: Mrs. Holt, EdS
School Psychologist
What do School Psychologists do?
School psychologists provide direct support and interventions to students; consult with teachers, families, and other school-employed mental health professionals (i.e., school counselors, school social workers) to improve support strategies; work with school administrators to improve school-wide practices and policies; and collaborate with community providers to coordinate needed services. School psychologists help schools successfully: improve academic achievement, promote positive behavior and mental health, support diverse learners, create safe, positive school climate, strengthen family-school partnerships and improve school-wide assessment and accountability.
Why do Children and Youth Need School Psychologists?
All children and youth can face problems from time to time related to learning, social relationships, making difficult decisions, or managing emotions such as depression, anxiety, worry, or isolation. School psychologists help students, families, educators, and members of the community understand and resolve both long-term, chronic problems and short-term issues that students may face. They understand how these issues affect learning, behavior, well-being and school engagement.
How do I Contact a School Psychologist?
Every school has access to the services of a school psychologist, although some school psychologists serve two or more schools, so they may not be at a particular school every day. Most often, school psychologists can be reached by inquiring at the school directly or at the district’s central office, or by locating contact information on the school or district website. I am pleased to introduce myself as the school psychologist at Village Elementary. I am at the school typically on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Field Trip Expectations
Field trips are an opportunity for us to provide scholars with exposure to many activities and events throughout the county and state. We want our scholars to participate and field trips are open to ALL scholars. That said, I need YOU in partnership with us to explain to scholars expectations regarding behavior. When teachers take scholars off campus, it is imperative that they know and understand how to LISTEN to adults and are responsible to stay with the group. The last thing I want is for a child to get lost and/or hurt on our watch. Make sure that you have conversations with your child about this.
If your child has been struggling with maintaining appropriate behavior on campus, it MAY become necessary for administration to have a conversation with you about whether or not the field trip is appropriate for your child. If you are in doubt, talk with your child's teacher about their behavior. Field trip payments are non-refundable and I don't want anyone to lose money because of their child's poor choices. Let's partner together to make sure our scholars understand the expectations of field trip participation.
