January Newsletter--2018

From the Desk of Mrs. Nutter

January is always a time for reflection and setting new goals. Have you spoken with your student about their winter MAP goals? Even though the reports have not gone home yet, I am willing to bet your child can tell you whether or not they met their goal and what their action steps are for hitting their goals in the spring.

As I look at the overall results for the building, we are continuing to make academic gains year to year! Hats off to the staff and students who are working so hard to make those improvements!

We have a few students still completing make up testing, once they are done, individual reports will be sent home with students.

If at any time you have questions about the reports or your student's grades, please contact your child's teacher!

Wishing you great things in 2018!

Spelling Bee

We held our school-wide Spelling Bee on Thursday, January 4th. The top spellers from 4th, 5th and 6th grades competed to declare the winner and send the three top spellers to the County Spelling Bee.

The following students were involved in the Bee:

Marty Schuster, Natalie Johnson, Abbigayle Rupe, Bayleigh Armstrong, Cassandra Kurek, Emily Schuster, Jaydon Henry, Jamie Essick, Aneeka Reedy, Jacob Wagner, Maya Collene, Briley HIldreth, Keith Heinlen, Hannah Adams, Ryan Wise, Jaxon Vance, Drew Johnson, Elle Cassaro and Wesley Stinehelfer.

After 24 rounds, Drew Johnson was declared the Champion.

Marty Schuster was declared the Second Place Winner.

Emily Schuster was declared the Third Place Winner.

Drew, Marty and Emily will represent WES at the Crawford County Spelling Bee this Thursday. We wish them the best of luck!

Community Outreach

We are happy to announce that we collected just over $560 to send to Mrs. Ulmer's family in Puerto Rico. She recently announced that they have finally gotten their electricity turned back on...can you imagine 111 days without power? I cannot.

In February we have plans for a Valentine's Day Dance. This event will support the Crawford County Humane Society, details will be sent home closer to the event!

Leader in Me--Habit 3--Put First Things First

To live a more balanced existence, you have to recognize that not doing everything that comes along is okay. There's no need to overextend yourself. All it takes is realizing that it's all right to say no when necessary and then focus on your highest priorities.
Habit 1 says, "You're in charge. You're the creator." Being proactive is about choice. Habit 2 is the first, or mental, creation. Beginning with the End in Mind is about vision. Habit 3 is the second creation, the physical creation. This habit is where Habits 1 and 2 come together. It happens day in and day out, moment-by-moment. It deals with many of the questions addressed in the field of time management. But that's not all it's about. Habit 3 is about life management as well--your purpose, values, roles, and priorities. What are "first things?" First things are those things you, personally, find of most worth. If you put first things first, you are organizing and managing time and events according to the personal priorities you established in Habit 2.

How can you put first things first to accomplish your goals for 2018?
