Health Survey
Our school is committed to developing policies and procedures that strengthen our health and physical education programmes.
As required by legislation, our board or trustees produces a written statement (at least once every two years) about how the school will implement health education.
We are currently reviewing our written statement and health and P.E curriculum so would like to consult with members of the school community regarding the way in which the school should implement health education.
(The legislation makes provision for individual parents to request that their children be excluded from specified parts of the health programme related to sexuality education.)
Please help by completing the online Health Survey:

Great weather for lunchtime playing!
The Tech Hub
Kia ora and welcome to Techs 1st practical food lesson for term 2.
If you were wondering what those wonderful aromas were coming from our Tech room this week, it was our Tech students making Butter Chicken and Naan Bread - Yum Yum!
Below is the recipe, and some very happy faces eating the rewards of their efforts.
This is a simple, cost effective and yummy dinner which I know my kids love!
Please don't forget to pay your tech fee, it's a great deal and one less thing for you parents to worry about during the term.
Please also remember that all students need to bring a named container on practical lessons, in the hope they will bring some yummy food home!
Also some simple health and safety rules that all students follow during class times:
- hair must be tied up.
- covered shoes must be worn.
- wash hands before cooking.
- wear an apron.
Happy cooking everyone!
BUTTER CHICKEN
INGREDIENTS:
500g Boneless chicken thighs or breast
300ml cream
1 tin condensed tomato soup
1 tsp minced garlic
1tsp minced ginger
1 TBSP honey or brown sugar
1 tsp curry powder (S)
1 ½ tsp turmeric (S)
1 ½ tsp garam masala (S)
¼ tsp cinnamon (S)
½ tsp cumin (S)
1 tsp paprika (S)
¼ tsp chilli power -optional. (S)
1 TBSP oil
1 TBSP butter
METHOD:
1. Chop chicken into bite sized chunks.
2. Heat oil and butter in a pan, add garlic, ginger and the spices (S) and cook until fragrant.
3. Add tomato soup and chopped chicken to the pan and bring to a light boil.
4. Add the honey or sugar, and cream, simmer for about 20 minutes.
5. Add salt and pepper to taste, and add more spices if needed.
Serve with rice and naan bread.
Serves 4.
QUICK NAAN BREAD
INGREDIENTS:
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
3/4 tsp baking powder
2 tsp oil (I used olive, you could use anything relatively mild)
1/2 cup* milk
Butter + herbs for seasoning
METHOD:
1. Combine all dry ingredients, and whisk together.
2. Create a well in the middle of the dry ingredients, and add the oil and milk. Mix everything together until it forms a ball. Turn out on the counter and knead until very smooth and elastic — at least 5 minutes — adding more flour as necessary.
3. Let the dough rest for 10 minutes. Divide into 8-10 equal pieces.
4. Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat. Roll one piece of dough until very thin. If the frying pan isn’t non-stick, melt some butter before each piece. One at a time, cook the naan for about 90 seconds, or until parts are blackening, on each side. When they are done, you can brush them with butter and add seasonings (coriander and garlic) if you want.

Two Maths Games to Play at Home
I Spy
What you need:
A pack of cards with the picture cards removed. Ace counts as 1; 40 cards in total.
Addition Version:
The purpose of this activity is to help your child to develop instant recall of addition facts to 20.
What to do:
- Deal out the cards in 10 rows of 4 or 5 rows of 8.
- Players take turns to challenge the others. For example I spy two cards that add to 12
- Players look for 2 cards next to each other, horizontally, vertically or diagonally, that add to the number specified.
- The player that finds the combination collects the 2 cards. If the combination of cards cannot be found, the player who posed the ‘I Spy’ question takes the two cards.
- If the player made an error and there is no such combination of cards, nobody collects any cards and the next player takes their turn.
- As cards are removed, the remaining cards are rearranged to fill in the spaces.
- The winner is the player with the most cards once all the cards have been collected.
Variations:
Add three cards to make the “I spy” total.
What to expect your child to do:
At first children may need to count the symbols on the cards to work out the addition facts but expect them to develop instant recall.
Multiplication Version
The purpose of this activity is to help your child to develop instant recall of multiplication facts.
What to do:
- Deal out the cards in 10 rows of 4 or 5 rows of 8.
- Players take turns to challenge the others. For example
- I spy two cards that multiply to make 30
- Players look for 2 cards next to each other, horizontally, vertically or diagonally, that multiply to give the number specified.
Variations:
A simpler version is to use fewer cards: aces, twos, threes, fours and fives. This is a total of 20 cards that can be arranged in 4 rows of 5.
