Seeking Host Families
We are at the time of year again when we are seeking volunteers to host international students for the upcoming 2022-23 school year!
The picture below includes three wonderful students who are ready to join Dragon family as they learn and grow in the United States.
If you are interested in hosting one of these students, would like more information about hosting, or would like to find out if there are other students eligible for hosting, please contact our local AFS liaison, Jamie Hait Cohen, at jamie.h.cohen@gmail.com.
Grade Assessment Testing
This year school districts across Connecticut continue to be required to assess students in grades 3 through 8 in reading, writing and mathematics, and students in grades 5, 8, and 11 in science. To comply with this requirement our school will be administering the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) and the Next Generation Science Assessment (NGSS).
These assessments are administered online, and are designed to measure skills through reading comprehension, writing, math and science questions that require students to demonstrate mastery of the content. Listed below are the dates each grade level will be participating. We ask that students come to school on time and bring their school issued computer and headphones.
Grade Assessment Dates

DRAGON PRIDE ROCKS
Outside Adventures
Dr. Soar took a few 8th graders outside so that they could see the exciting things that the high schooler have been up to, and to show them what they can look forward to if they take his class in the upcoming years.
Senior Advisory

Mr. Serrano- CREC Post Secondary Assistant
Seniors got valuable info to help understand financial aid packages. Mr. Serrano meets with CREC Families during the senior year to discuss Post graduation options. His services are free of charge and are available even after graduation.
7th Grade Global Systems
Global Systems grade 7 students have been working hard on their informational cubes. Each student designed and researched their cubes around their top 3 goals from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Les Blasons Familials by 6th Grade French
Students in Mrs.Leduc’s 6th grade French classes created Les Blasons Familials, or Family Crests to kick off the La Vie en Famille (Family Life) unit. Students chose an image in the center of the family crest that represented an interest they have such as a sport or activity. Additionally, students chose a positive character trait for their motto and bright colors to represent positive traits they see in themselves and their families. Bien fait 6th grade…Well done!

Project SafeGrad
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!
Let's make this year's Safe Grad Celebration a fantastic event for our graduates!
SafeGrad is a yearly tradition that provides graduates with a substance free, chaperoned fun-filled evening with prizes, food, and entertainment for one last hurrah with their classmates. In the years past the event has been held at the school. This year we would like to celebrate the last graduating class of MLC at NOMADS in South Windsor. However, to do this requires $$$$. We need parents, families and friends to help us with every fundraiser so that we can maximize our profits.

Dental Van here at International
First Choice Health Centers will bring their dental bus to our school to provide dental cleanings, visual oral exams, fluoride applications, dental sealants as needed, and even restorative care as needed. Students must register to have these services.
This program is open to all students that register. First choice accepts HUSKY and most dental insurances. They offer a sliding fee for those students that are uninsured or under insured.
More information is provided in the registration forms. If you have any specific questions, you may contact Kathlyn Walker, First Choice School Based Coordinator at 860-266-9524, or by email at kwalker@firstchc.org. If you have financial concerns that are standing in the way of dental services we urge you to contact Kathlyn directly, as this organization strives to make sure that all children have access to dental care.
COVID Info
If your child or anyone in your household is experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms please refrain from sending your child to school until the appropriate quarantine has taken place. For more information or COVID-19 related questions please contact our school nurse.
CREC Mask Mandate: All CREC schools and buildings no longer have a mask mandate. Staff, students and families are asked to wear a mask at your own discretion.
From the desk of G. Florio
We are strongly encouraging students 5 and over to get vaccinated. Students who are fully vaccinated will not have to miss school or sports/activities if they remain asymptomatic. You can find a vaccine provider or clinic near you by visiting the CT Vaccine Portal. For those of you who are not ready, we encourage you to speak with your child's pediatrician to help make a decision.
We firmly believe that students need to be in school enjoying the interactions with their peers and actively engaging in their learning. CREC will do everything in our power to keep our schools and programs open each and every day. Your willingness to get vaccinated will help us in this effort.
