As I write this message it is hard to believe that we only have 8 days of school left this year. It has been a gift to watch your children learn and grow academically and socially. I am looking forward to the many events coming up so that we can celebrate our learning and accomplishments.
Next year we will have 3 teachers per grade level. The projected enrollment for YSES for next year is 446 students. The mathematical formula used to determine the number of teachers assigned to a school is based on the projected number. School level administrators may decide how to use teaching positions but do not have control over how many teachers are assigned to their building.
The grade level teams (at this time) for next year will be:
Kindergarten: Sue Guillen, Katie Johnson, Sara Caddy/Sandra Thompson
First Grade: Dana Covey, Tricia Smucker, Karyn Wathen (Grantham)
Second Grade: Sheree Kastner, Amanda McCole, Lois Smith
Third Grade: Lindsey Arthur, Joni Herrell, Bonnie Robinson/Aaron Moon
Fourth Grade: Chris Caro, Mike Ganley, Rayel Stanton
Fifth Grade: Alexis Kun, Cindy Small, Jordyn Smith
We are diligently going through the student placement process at this time. Our rising 1st through 5th grade students will have a label on his/her report card with the name of their teacher for next school year. Over the summer some of our staff members may seek promotions, consider teaching opportunities closer to home and/or simply want to try a new experience to prepare for future opportunities. Please be mindful that changes can, and often do, occur and that could result in a change for your child’s teacher assignment. As always, we closely monitor our enrollment over the summer months and in the event of a change, you will be notified via phone call or letter.
When placing students, the school staff carefully considers academics and social emotional needs of students, as well as, class dynamics. All letters regarding teacher characteristics that you feel best suit your child were due by May 31. 2019. Specific teacher requests are not/will not be taken.

Good nutrition is essential for learning in school. Continuing healthy eating habits is also important during the long hot summer months. Eating nutritious foods helps ensure students retain their hard learned knowledge… and to help them to keep right on learning throughout the summer. For many of these children, summer vacation can bring the temptation of eating empty calorie snacks and foods that are high in sugar, fats and sodium. And for many others, summer exposes students to an increased risk of hunger and developmental decline. Make seasonal fruits and vegetables a high priority for your snacks, meals and anytime.
Summertime is a time to play hard...but it is also a time to remember to eat right. Make sure good nutrition remains a priority all summer long, and students will return to school in the Fall healthy, sharp and ready to learn.
