The Last Song IRP Project

Difference Between Book and Movie
The first big difference between the Last Song book and movie is that Marcus is a major character in the book. Although in the movie he plays a minor role. Also in the book Marcus is very romantically interested in Ronnie. This difference is very crucial to the plot of the movie, with it left out it causes a lot of confusion and changes the relationship between Ronnie and Marcus's girlfriend. Also by leaving this out of the movie, Ronnie seems more adaptable to this new environment, whereas in the book Marus causes her to hate the town way more.
Difference
The second major difference is that in the book Ronnie's dad never yells at ronnie or hurts her in any way. however, in the movie he is slightly abrasive towards her at the beginning. This causes their relationship to lose some meaning and tenderness that it possesses in the book. Also this effects the way in the end that Ronnie feels towards her dad's death, in the book she seemed to take it less hard than she did in the movie.
“Sometimes you have to be apart from people you love, but that doesn't make you love them any less. Sometimes you love them more.” -The Last Song
Difference
The third difference is that Ronnie plays her first piano song again for the first time to her dad in the book, but in the movie she plays for Will first. In the movie, this really downplays the relationship that Ronnie has with her dad. In the book this is a very meaningful moment for Ronnie and her dad because it represents them reconnecting and starting over in their relationship. Whereas, in the movie this moment of rekendleship never happens, the relationship still seems tense.
