Ms. Lenore Moves to Herring

Ms. Lenore is transitioning to Lucy S. Herring to be their data manager. The district vacancy has been available for a while and they needed this vital role filled. We are sending them our best. They will love Ms. Lenore and her kind spirit. She is so talented at bringing joy in every day.

We are so lucky we had the last year with Ms. Lenore as part of our family and will miss her so much. Please let her know how much she has meant to your APS experience in an email or note. December 1st will be her first official day at Herring.

Going forward, please send all questions and changes in transportation or Power School information to karena.haynes@acsgmail.net or polly.bolding@acsgmail.net. We will all be stepping in to fill Ms. Lenore's big shoes!

Remote Learning Packets

Packets will come home this Friday for you to KEEP until we have a NO SCHOOL FOR WEATHER DAY. This year we will be able to have remote learning days on those icy or snowy days. Please keep these packets put away until they are needed.

Health & Safety

Covid Protocols continue to change as our community needs change. Please refer to the tool kits below to find the latest information and explanations of safety protocols. Our district uses these tool kits to help develop safety protocols for our schools. (Please remember that all the board meeting videos are available on our district website.)

Covid cases are rising in our community currently. Please do your best to follow all safety protocols and keep your family safe. Our school numbers have not risen lately and we are certain it is because our staff are being diligent with protocols and our families are extra cautious when it comes to symptoms. Thank you for your efforts!

Students should stay home, even with a negative test result, if they have vomiting or diarrhea or a fever. They may return with a negative test result and 24 hours after no longer vomiting, diarrhea or fever without the aid of medication.

**Preschool guidelines are now the same as school aged.

Help us keep it safe by:

  • washing or sanitizing your child's backpack periodically
  • keeping coats and sweaters clean
  • washing or wiping down any items your child brings to school (i.e. water bottles)

Thank you for your help with keeping it safe at our school.

VOLUNTEERS

Currently, we are working on getting MOU agreements for outside agencies to come in and serve our students. Next, we will begin setting up volunteers on a scheduled basis. If you would like to be paired with an activity or group of students on a regular basis, please visit the district volunteer page to complete a background check. You will also complete Volunteer Level II training with Kim Dechant prior to being added to our list. If you have any questions, please call administration or speak with Polly Bolding at 350-2900. We know you are anxious to get started. We want to make sure that we are following district guidance on Covid protocols to keep everyone safe and keep our numbers down.

We need GREAT people!

Asheville City Schools has several instructional assistant vacancies at the elementary level for the 2021-2022 school year. Visit https://www.applitrack.com/asheville/onlineapp/default.aspx for details.

These positions are full time positions with benefits (i.e. state retirement, sick days, paid time off, health insurance, and access to supplemental insurance). Part time positions have a greater per hour rate of pay. The best part is you have the opportunity to have a positive impact on children every day.

Our list is shrinking, but we are still in need of the following positions:

  • academic support assistants
  • instructional assistants
  • substitutes

Many schools across our district are struggling with finding new staff to fill positions and we are no exception. Until those positions are filled, please allow grace to our staff as we all fill in to make sure that everything is taken care of for our students. Thank you!

Want To Be More Involved at APS?

We are looking for families to join our Title One Parent Involvement Team. This team helps us find ways to involve our community and families in our students' academic success. We also create the communication that is sent to families about Title One, plan events centered around how we use Title One funds at APS, and create and innovate ways to support every child's success. There are also opportunities to represent our school on the ACS District Title One team.

Want to join us? Email Tima Williams at tima.williams@acsgmail.net.
