Kelly E. sent a thoughtful email about Mark's work with a struggling 12th grader. The message was wonderful, and it ended with the following statements: "Without Mark, she would have either dropped out or been found habitually truant and withdrawn by now. She is going to graduate due, in large part, to the fact that Mark cares and is doing something about it. Kudos to Mark!"
-Powerful work, Mark!

SSS Department Trivia
Week 2 of Round 3 - Who am I?
WHO AM I? "I started work at a Taxidermy one summer and didn't know the difference between a moose and deer."
The answer is Desylnn Mecham!
No one got it right! Des, you stumped the team!
Scoreboard stays the same.

A Note from Deslynn regarding his trivia item
“These all look the same to me.”
I lost my mind one summer and worked at a taxidermy for a prestigious Big Game hunting outfit. I was supposed to be able to talk to rich hunters about their prize hunt and how they best wanted it showcased. Who knew there was a whole vocabulary for taxidermy?? I never wanted to watch Disney’s Wild Kingdom growing up. That should have been my first clue that animal smells, skins and horns were not for me.

Departmental & School Updates
SSS Dept. Changes
As some of you may know, Debbie is no longer with IDVA. As such, many of us are absorbing different tasks until we are able to backfill the position. If you come across something that normally would need Debbie's attention, please direct it to me.
Also, in the midst of transitioning Bev into a new role, we've been able to hire a new FSL. Heidi Arratte (sounds like karate without the "k") is a long time educator, with tons of amazing experience, and I am so happy she'll be joining our team. Her first day is 1/28. More to come.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
-Alex
