The Mustang Stampede

Third Grade news for the months of Feb. & March

Math

We are in the process of reviewing many of the skills learned last fall, including place value, fractions, measurement of length and perimeter, estimation and rounding, time, temperature, and graphic sources of information. We will be incorporating most of those into a problem solving test which will also integrate multi-step problems.

Fluency continues with the remainder of the factors. We spend one week on each, unless otherwise noted, with the tests coming on Fridays. This week we will test over X11. We will continue through X4, X8, X7, and X12 in that order. We cover related facts in a specific order, as outlined in the district curriculum. Science

We are wrapping up our study of the Earth after learning about rocks and minerals, soil, and land forms. We will also learn about rapid and slow changes to Earth's surface. Coming up in the next grading period, we will begin Life Science, learning about plants and animals and the environments in which they live.

Reading & Language Arts

Reading: This six weeks we are going to shift gears from non-fiction to poetry. We will be delving into topics such as poetry appreciation, poetry devices, poetry structure, and poetry types.

LA/Spelling: For the writing part of LA, we will also focus on expressive thoughts through poetry formats. The spelling will continue to be the same with a combination of Sight Words for homework and word work in class. I have seen large gains in the spelling. Thank you parents for the support at home.

Social Studies

For the upcoming six weeks, we will focus on President's Day and the impact of these influential Americans. From that standpoint, the students will learn the foundations of how government is designed to work properly.

* A huge bit of praise goes out to all parents and families who gave time to support the kids in their Living Museum. It was, by far, the best we've had yet. The students astounded us with their knowledge and effort. All that was made possible by your encouragement!
