Eastwood Academy HS Newsletter - Summer 2021 Edition Vol. 1

Greetings, Families!

Happy last day of school! This school year has certainly presented some unique challenges for us all. We laughed, cried, and shouted out in frustration many times; yet here we are - closing out the roughest and toughest school year we've ever encountered.

Thank you to all of the parents who showed us their love and support this school year. Thank you to our Eastwood PTO and parent volunteers for providing an amazing week of lunch for our teachers and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week! You all really showed up in a VERY big way to express your gratitude for our hardworking educators.

Enclosed in this month's bulletin are the summer assignments from all teachers who have assigned one as well as an announcement from our partners with Momentum Education. We will post each of the summer assignments on the Eastwood Academy webpage as well. Summer assignments are required for the courses listed and most teachers will ask for them during the first week of the school year.

Contact with Principal Lira

It is always my goal to answer at all times of the day and all days of the week but I will be undergoing a surgical procedure that will require some downtime for healing and recovery. Please be advised that I will be out of the office and possibly unreachable from June 16th through June 28th.

If you need me or have any questions throughout that week and a half, please send me a text message: 713-351-9050.

If I am unable to reply, you may contact Ms. Dixie Morales by text or email: 832-506-1411

I thank you in advance for your kindness and understanding.

Summer Assignments

Please note that only the courses listed have a required summer assignment. If you do not see the name of the course you plan to take, that means there isn't a summer assignment for that course.

READ: Final schedules will not be sent until the beginning of August. You should complete the summer assignment(s) for the course(s) you signed up for when completing your course requests in the spring. I have written descriptors for the courses so that 9th graders will have an idea as to which assignments to complete. All 9th graders will do English I and Biology_9th Grade and most will do Algebra I.

Momentum Education

Biology Summer Prep for 9th Graders

Are you an incoming 9th grade student at Eastwood? Are you interested in learning about biology this summer to prepare for next year's class? If so, Momentum Education is offering a summer prep course on Biology. Our goal at Eastwood is for 50% of our 9th graders to earn Masters performance on the STAAR Biology exam in 2022. To support this goal, we ask that all of our incoming 9th graders take the prep course.
