God Tells Me to Obey
This week our kids are learning about the Ten Commandments from Exodus 19 & Deuteronomy 26. As I read Deuteronomy 26, I have to stop at verse 16 "follow them carefully with all your heart and soul." It's such a sweet reminder to me that the Lord isn't after behavior modification; He's after our hearts. He doesn't want me to just do things, He wants my actions to be tied to my heart and soul that's transformed by HIm.
Obedience is so much easier when you trust your authority. And God is so trustworthy! He never changes! Understanding the character of who He is, of how He sees you, of how He pursues our hearts for His glory & our good means that my perspective is "I get to obey because I know it's for my good." We get to walk in His ways!
This is who our God is:
The Lord — the Lord is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth, maintaining faithful love to a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But he will not leave the guilty unpunished, bringing the fathers’ iniquity on the children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation.
-Exodus 34:6-7
Reflect:
- When was the last time the Lord asked you to take a step of obedience, big or small?
- How have you seen the Lord's faithfulness in your past as you've taken steps to obey Him?
