STAFF IN THE SPOTLIGHT

MEET MS. RUTH GARCIA

Big picture

I am Mrs. Garcia and I teach 1st grade. This is my 9th year at Harmony School of Excellence and I am so lucky to be working with so many wonderful people. Last year I had the opportunity to see the students from my first class at HSE become high schoolers.

My children are growing just as fast as my former students. Lindsay, my oldest daughter, graduated from the University of North Texas in December with a degree in finance and my youngest daughter, Elissa, is a junior in high school.

When I am not working, I love spending time with my family. Elissa began running track year-round last year, so much of my time is spent cheering her on at her meets. We also enjoy spending time together at the beach when our schedules permit.

Good morning HSE family,

We are excited to kick off our Spring Reading Challenge for the second semester! The Spring Reading Challenge begins February 14th and will conclude May 5th. We will use the same procedures to collect information on books read for K-2 and for 3-7th.

Please share the information page with parents and with students via Dojo. For grades 3rd-7th, please show students how to access the Google Form to input their reading submissions. They must be logged into their portal using their student email address in order to complete the Google Form.

The Texas Mental Health Creative Arts Contest is an awesome opportunity for students and adults to flex their art skills while also promoting mental health awareness. The purpose is to educate people about how common mental illnesses are and to encourage individuals to seek help when they need it. Now more than ever, mental health awareness and wellness are essential for daily functioning.

The contest is open to elementary, middle school, high school, and adults. You must enter your art by Friday, March 10, 2023.

Important Information regarding Student Attendance from Ms. Acosta

Ensuring that our students are at school every day is vital to a student’s success. The Texas attendance rules state that a student has to be in a class at least 90 percent of the time in order to get credit for the class. The 90 percent rule applies to most absences, including excused absences. The Student Handbook explains our school’s guidelines on absences, tardies, and making up missed schoolwork. Becoming familiar with the school’s policies will help you manage your child’s attendance and ensure that he or she avoids too many missed school days.

Although perfect attendance is the goal, it’s not always possible. Therefore, please keep the following points in mind:

  • If your student is absent you will have 3 days to provide a note by the parent or doctor otherwise, the attendance will stay as an unexcused absence.
  • The parent excuse note should state the following:
    1.) Full student name
2.) Reason of absence in detail for record purposes.
3.) The date(s) the student was absent.
  • Parent-written excuse notes need to be on letter-size paper(8X10). We will not accept sticky notes or torn-off pieces of paper
  • Three accumulated tardies are considered one absence.

Message from our Admin

Hello HSE Family,

For morning drop off, we're requiring all parents to stay in their car and follow morning drop off either in the front of the school or the North arrival area.

Please do not park in the campus area to walk your students. Parents are supposed to stay in their cars and drive to the drop-off areas so that students can get out of the cars.

For the safety of our students and yours, please do not park on Brook River Drive and walk your child across Gessner Road. Gessner Road is a very busy road with a set speed limit of 40 MPH. Also, DO NOT STOP AND DROP YOUR CHILD OFF GESSNER ROAD! Thank you for understanding!

We will keep the first U-Turn open when you come from Gessner Rd (It was closed today but it will not be closed again). Please do not use the second U-Turn and please do not cut in line.

We will have a police officer several days a week to reinforce these issues.

Have a good day!

NO STUDENT DROP-OFF IS ALLOWED BEFORE 7:00AM!

Please do not drop off your student(s) at the school before 7:00am.
