The South was already thinking about leaving when South Carolina did. South Carolina was the first state to leave the Union. The South was seceding because the North didn't like slavery.

By February 1861, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia Left to join South Carolina and the Confederacy. Other states like Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia would later join the Confederacy. The president of the Confederate States of America was Jefferson Davis.
