FROM THE PRINCIPAL
The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) is the state assessment and accountability measure for Illinois students enrolled in a public school district. IAR assesses the New Illinois Learning Standards Incorporating the Common Core and will be administered in English Language Arts and Mathematics. This test replaces the PARCC that was given last year, but includes the same skills and format.
IAR assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics will be administered to all students in grades 3-8. There are 2 ELA sessions and 3 Math sessions.
All D200 elementary schools will begin testing on Thursday, April 4. We will give 1 session per day. All testing will be completed by April 15. We will schedule testing on April 4, 5, 8, 11, and 12. This will allow days for make ups and an additional day for the 5th grade state science assessment.
Most important is that your child is physically and mentally prepared to show his/her best effort on these assessments. Please insist on a good night's sleep and offer a healthy breakfast. We will provide a positive environment, understanding that students may need movement breaks and encouragement.

FROM OUR NURSE, MRS. JEAN DIAMOND
As we continue to look forward to Spring, please continue to encourage your children to get good sleep, eat healthy foods, AND keep their hands clean!!
Hand washing with warm water and soap is the most effective way to keep healthy this cold and flu season! The best way for the kids to make sure they are washing their hands long enough is to sing Happy Birthday to themselves!!! Hand sanitizer is your 2nd choice.
As you may know there has been a Mumps outbreak in other neighboring communities. Flu, Mumps, and other viral illness are spread through respiratory secretions, so reminding the kids to "COVER THEIR COUGH AND WASH THEIR HANDS" is our best defense.
All school nurses track the illnesses with vomiting, diarrhea and fever and report those to the State. School nurses also track students with fever of 100 degrees or over, AND onset of cough and/or sore throat.
Please call the office with any questions!
RESPONSIBLE USE
Limit the time your student is on the chromebook. While the chromebook is a very engaging device, it is a school work device. Care and constant monitoring will reduce your child's exposure to excessive use.
Talk with your child about online behavior, safety, and security. Set rules for the internet just as you do for use of all media sources such as television, phones, movies, and music.
Monitor your child's computer use. Know their passwords and check the search history. It is suggested that the chromebook is used in a common family location.
DEVICE MAINTENANCE
Reminders from our signed Chromebook Agreement Form:
I will not release personal information to strangers when using the Chromebook.
l will keep all accounts and passwords assigned to me secure, and will not share these with any other students.
l will clean my Chromebook with a soft, clean, cloth. I will not use window cleaner or any type of liquid on the Chromebook.
I will keep the screen clean and not touch the screen with my fingers.
I will transport the chromebook to and from school in the protective case and keep this case in my backpack.
CHARGING and HEADPHONES
It is the student's responsibility to be prepared for class each day, and that includes having a chromebook charged and ready to go.
Please check with your child to make sure they have working headphones at school. If they need a pair they can buy them in our office for $5 or they can bring a pair from home.
Earbuds or over the ear headphones are fine... whatever works best for your child. Also make sure your child's headphones/earbuds are labeled with the student's name.

Many times parents ask about health care options for physicals or for other services. Many of the area health centers are listed on district website. Here is the link to that page: https://www.woodstockschools.org/Page/634. This list included Aunt Martha's, McHenry Community Health Center, and Community Health Partnership Clinic in Harvard.
