Helping our students to be Responsible, Independent, Problem Solvers!
At Oakley Park, we teach and encourage our students each and every day to
- Be Respectful
- Be Responsible
- Be safe
I am confident we all share in the goal of guiding our students to become responsible, independent, problem solvers! If your child forgets to bring home a sweatshirt, lunchbox, water bottle, books or materials needed for homework assignments, please do not send them back into school without first contacting the teacher or principal for advice base on the urgency.
To ensure the safety and security of the students in Prime Time, the staff is not able to allow parents/students into the building though the Prime Time doors. Finally, we have one custodian who is responsible for cleaning and preparing the building for the next school day. Please sensitive to their work responsibilities and do not ask them to unlock classroom doors.
Please think twice before YOU solve the problem for your child. Instead, encourage your child to help problem solve...here are some ideas:
- School work/materials- call a classmate
- School work/materials-make a plan with your child for THEM to talk with the teacher the next day
- Lunchbox- use a brown/disposable bag
- Water bottle- students can rinse and refill at one of our filling stations
I can assure you all that a forgotten homework assignment in elementary school will NOT result in "failing grade" or any type of discipline but the learning opportunity WILL result in a greater level of independence, responsibility, and problem solving skills!
As a mom of three children who made plenty of mistakes, including forgetting various items at school; I, too, made the mistake of sometimes solving the problem for them! I wish I could have heard the message below back then...I find it to be quick and meaningful! I hope you do too!
