The Nullification Crisis
Since Jackson placed very high tariffs, South Carolina refused to pay them. They nullified the tariff. They threatened to secede from the United States if they had to pay the tariff. To get them to pay the it, Congress passed the "Force Bill" to force them to pay. Thankfully, Henry Clay negotiated a compromise. This compromise lowered the tariff and South Carolina agreed to pay it.

Worchester vs. Georgia
The Cherokee Indians lived on the border of and in Georgia. They lived on land with fertile soil and gold. Because of these characteristics, the United States wanted that land. The Cherokee Indians went to the Supreme Court and they ruled that the United States could not take their land, but Jackson didn't listen.

The Trail of Tears
Although the Worcester vs. Georgia case ruled that the United States government could not force the Cherokee Indians or any Indian tribe off their land, Jackson still forced them with violence. He made them travel to an area now known as Oklahoma. Since the weather was severe, disease broke out. Thousands died from either disease or the severe weather. About 1/3 of the Indian population died on the Trail of Tears.
