College and Career Newsletter
May 2022
From Mrs. Myrick
Please double check that your ICAP tasks are completed and your community service hours have been turned in to the counseling office.
I will not be at STEM on the 13th for your last day, so please stop by sometime that week (or after you graduate) to say goodbye! Remember...candy is still always in my office - even if it's not stress candy during application season anymore :) I am so proud of all of you!! Y'all have been such an amazing class to work with for my first year at STEM and will miss you immensely!
Juniors: Please make sure you turn in your After Grad Packet if you have yet to do so! Normally, I tell all juniors to start their college applications over the summer, HOWEVER this year I am requesting you do not start any of your Common App applications until after the first week of school. Our Naviance account is integrating with Common App and we are unable to do so until the beginning of August. If you start an application before then, it is highly likely that your information will not be transfered over. Common App HAS announced that essay prompts for for next year are not changing yet, so you can absolutely start on those essays over the summer in a Google Doc :). I will have a step-by-step presentation with seniors (and will be in the August newsletter!) on how to link their Naviance and Common App accounts. Trust me - you will still have more than enough time to get all of your applications in before the first deadline!!
Senior Parents: Senior Honor Night will be held on May 18 at the Southridge Rec Center from 6-7:30pm. Graduation is May 19 at 10am at Echo Park Stadium!
Junior Parents: I don't have any updates for y'all, but didn't want to leave you off my list! :) try and get your kids to visit schools they are interested in this summer!
As always, feel free to come by my office and chat, email, or schedule an appointment if you have any questions!
Juniors, if I do not see you before the end of the year have an amazing summer break! I will see you in the fall as our new senior class!!
Mrs. M
