Athletics
Athletics is an integral part of the university experience that is vital to your educational growth and advancement. There are opportunities to foster friendships, goodwill and overall fitness at both of thier campuses. Whether you choose to join a team, or you just want to get active for the health of it, you'll find what you’re looking for at Lakehead. They offer a variety of competitive men’s and women’s varsity and club level sports teams
Lakehead's Athletics Department also features a comprehensive Campus Recreation program. Working hard to promote a healthy and active campus lifestyle, Campus Recreation provides you with a great selection of intramurals to choose from.
LAKEHEAD THUNDERWOLVES
Join in the howl as you cheer on your Lakehead Thunderwolves to victory during home venue games. With an unyielding student body and dedicated community following, every action-packed game is full of excitement that you won't want to miss!
THUNDER BAY CAMPUS FACILITIES
There is an extensive on-campus fitness facilities at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse and our newest facility, The Hangar. The C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse features the 15,000-square-foot Thunderdome gymnasium, state-of-the-art Wolves' Den fitness centre, newly-renovated 50-metre eight-lane swimming pool, cardio room, outdoor sports fields, beach volleyball courts, Kinesiology labs, squash court, and change rooms complete with saunas.
The Hangar, Lakehead's newest 50,000-square-foot student athletic facility features a 200-metre track, pro-grade artificial turf field, climbing wall, and additional weight training, aerobic and cardio areas. The Hangar is also home to the new Sports Medicine Clinic.
ORILLIA CAMPUS FACILITIES
As a newer campus, Lakehead's Orillia Campus will see its athletics facilities develop in years to come. In the interim, full-time Lakehead University – Orillia Campus students are eligible for membership at the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka during the fall and winter semesters. There is no additional cost for the membership as it is covered by your Athletics fees. The YMCA offers a wide variety of recreational activities to help you stay active and reduce stress: Yoga, Pilate's, Zumba, Group Cycling, Pump Step, Hi-lo Pump, Cardio Kick, Gravity, Aquafit, Bootcamp, Stretch & Strength (Pilate's/Yoga class), and drop-in options for basketball, volleyball, open gym, and open swim.
And a bonus – memberships can be used at many YMCA facilities outside of the Simcoe/Muskoka region when you are away during holidays or academic placements.
