Call for Proposals: WNY Multilingual Teacher Summit
We invite you to submit a proposal for our 2nd annual virtual ELL Summer Conference. This year, we will be scheduling presentations August 17-19, 2021 in 45 minute time slots, conducted via Zoom. You will be partnered with an RBERN Specialist during the presentation to facilitate and provide technical support. If you have a great strategy or practice, please consider a proposal to support the region as we continue to face new challenges advocating for and supporting English language learners. We are seeking presenters for the following topics:
- Bilingual Education
- Social-Emotional supports
- Culturally Responsive Practices
- Parent and Family Engagement
- ENL Blended Learning Practices

Gates-Chili ENL Department Newsletter
The Gates-Chili ENL Department sends out a monthly newsletter to share all things ELL with staff in the district, with the goal of building awareness and shining a positive light on all that our staff, students, and families have to offer. The department works collaboratively to create and send the newsletter out to staff district wide.
Some of the topics regularly included in the newsletter are:

- ENL in Gates Chili - Facts/statistics about the district's ENL Program

By day, Jennifer McMahon ’96, ’16W (EdD) works as the director of learning for the Livonia Central School District. By morning and night, she commutes to Cambodia—via Zoom, and takes part in a 6 a.m. English class with teachers who are striving to keep up their English and hone their teaching skills.

SUNY Application Week
SUNY has launched a new initiative to make sure everyone has a fair shot at college this year, particularly students from low-income and underrepresented backgrounds, who have statistically been hardest hit by the worst effects of the pandemic.
From March 15-19, a team of admissions advisors will help students complete SUNY applications and answer questions about:
- How to apply
- Financial aid options
- Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)
- COVID-19 safety
- Application fee waivers
Academic Glow Up Conference: Advice for College-Bound Latinx Students
The event was prepared by the Program of Bilingual / Bicultural Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, and other organizations. It is open to the public and geared towards high school Latinx students.. The conference by webinar will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM. It is also a great opportunity for our students to connect with other high school students from NY state and other parts of the country. The first 100 students that register will receive a gift for their participation.
NYS TESOL is looking for creative English language learners to participate in the logo design contest. The student creator of the winning logo will receive a cash prize of $150 and recognition at the Annual Conference in November 2021. All submissions must be received by March 25, 2021
