January Challenges from P.E.
A. Try Go Noodle Zumba at home with your kids. They love it and parents will too!

ART
Congratulations to Curator’s Challenge champions Juliana Ellingson, Elise Farley, and Ayden Schneider! All three worked hard to study over 100 works of art, then competed with students from Spring Hill and Windermere Elementary in an “art bee” challenge this past Saturday. After three epic rounds, Team Riojas took first place! (pictures below)
Kinder - 2nd Parents, be on the lookout for information regarding the fundraiser Art to Remember. AtR provides parents the opportunity to purchase an array of keepsakes printed with their child’s artwork, with portions of the proceeds benefiting the Riojas art program! We have selected an ocean theme this year for our AtR art projects, which the students absolutely love!
5th Grade’s Fine Arts Night is just around the corner—Thursday, February 8th, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. to be exact! Following the rockin’ music performance, “Blast from the Past,” join us for a “gallery walk” in the school’s main hallway. 5th grade will be displaying their favorite pieces of artwork, along with a collaborative piece of sculpture art.
MUSIC
Great things are happening in music and a great start to a great new year J All upper grades (3rd-5th) will have a music assignment/ project this semester, so be on the watch for some fun music topics coming home.
5th grade is preparing for their big “Blast from the Past” concert for Riojas Fine Arts Night on February 8th.
4th grade is about the get some flyers for our upcoming unit on recorders (You are WELCOME parents J). You can buy one from the music department for $10.00 and contribute to our fundraiser; you can bring one from home, or borrow one from the school. There are many options to get your students’ fingers rockin’ on the recorder!
3rd grade will begin our unit on percussion instruments and begin playing songs for xylophones and metallophones.
All lower grades (K-2), watch for flyers and emails from me. This semester will include a new feature, an “informance” day! This is where you can come join your student for music class and see what we are learning! You will be invited to a date in March or April. We are doing all this, and so much more! I’m looking forward to making more great music with our Riojas musicians this semester!
