Springfield Anchored in Excellence
January News
Dear Springfield Parents,
Happy New Year! We are so excited about starting the year 2020! I am looking forward to all the growth and learning our Super Suns will experience this semester. As we continue the year being anchored in excellence, we would like to share several events coming up in the very near future.
On Friday, January 10, we had the opportunity to celebrate the awesome behavior of our Super Suns for the 2nd Nine Weeks. The theme was: "Let It Snow". We celebrated with snowmen, a variety of games, ice cream sandwiches, movies, and a virtual reality trip to Antarctica. Our school faculty have worked diligently to establish a variety of expectations that we hold near and dear to our hearts. We believe that every Super Sun can SHINE! Our Super Suns SHINE by showing: Self Control, Honesty, Independence, Neatness, and Engagement. With everyone speaking the same common language with expectations, it creates an environment where our students feel loved, they feel safe, they can take risks, build long lasting relationships, and truly SHINE!
In order to optimize classroom instruction, we will host our 2nd Nine Weeks In Class Award's Day for Grades 2-5 on January 24. 2nd & 3rd Grades will be held at 9:00 AM and 4th & 5th Grades will be held at 10:00 AM. You will be able to share in celebrating your child's 2nd Nine Weeks accomplishments. We will host the Award's Day in your child's classroom in a more intimate setting. At the end of the year, we will recognize every grade level in a school wide Award's Day.
Our annual school wide spelling bee will take place on January 28th @ 1:00 PM. We have a group of Super Suns in grades 3rd-5th who have been practicing after school with Mrs. Katie Greer and Mrs. Anne Marie Glawe. We welcome you to this event!
We will also host our annual Somebody Special Dance on February 7 at 5:30. Please be on the look out for a flyer to go home in the next few weeks. The cost per couple is $10.
On February 25, we will host our first Science Fair. In order to prepare our students for the future, we know it's imperative to introduce the world of STEMS to our students. STEMS stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. As an elementary school, we lay the foundation for our Super Suns. The Science Fair will give our students the opportunity to think like scientists. Students in Grades Kindergarten - 3rd Grade will complete a science fair experiment with their classroom teacher. Students in Grades 4th & 5th, will complete a science fair project individually. Each student in Grades 4&5 will need to purchase his or her own tri-fold science board. Individual and class winners will be announced on February 25 at our Science Fair Night.
Flu Season is upon us. We ask all families to be vigilant and very careful about sending an ill child to school. If a child vomits, he/she must stay home for at LEAST 24 hours. This is courtesy for our students, school faculty, and our students' families, as it exposes everyone. We have also attached a form indicating symptoms and how long a child should stay out of school. We are sending this to you as a precaution to help you take preventive steps if your child becomes sick.
This is also the time of the year that you may need to update your emergency contact list. If you need to update the list, please stop by the front office at any time with your picture ID.
We are looking forward to what's in store for 2020! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school. We are wishing you and your family a wonderful year!
