This Week's Theme: ETIQUETTE
Etiquette is a set of behaviors that are appropriate according to society. This refers to the correct behavior that is established by a community for different occasions, ceremonies, and formal events and everyday life.
It is interesting to note that different cultures have different rules of etiquette. Even within the United States etiquette varies. For example: in the South it’s customary to say yes/no ma’am/sir when addressing another person.
Let’s look at a few examples of etiquette across the world:
- Britain: Instead of saying “Thank you!”, you would say “Cheers!”.
- Japan: You should slurp your noodles at a restaurant! It’s a sign you are enjoying your meal.
- China: It’s ok to burp! Like in Japan, burping is a sign you enjoyed your meal!
We should also talk about first impressions. An impression is an opinion or feeling about someone. The saying “you never get a second chance to make a first impression” is true for a reason. The first impression you make on someone will remain in their minds. So, you want to be sure that impression is a good one.
This week's video gives some tips on making a good first impression. Try out these tips the next time you need to introduce yourself!
