Hansen Weekly Update
February 18, 2022
Hi Hansen Students, Parents, and Families!
Welcome to February break! No matter your plans, I hope that next week provides each of you an opportunity to rest, relax, and enjoy many fun moments with those closest to you. As hard as it may be to believe, upon our return we find ourselves on the doorstep of March, with just a few short weeks before Spring.
As you may have heard, at last night's School Committee meeting, the committee voted to follow the most recent guidance around masking from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and beginning when we return from break on Monday, February 28, students and staff are no longer required to wear masks while in school. Anyone that wants to continue to wear a mask will absolutely be supported and is most definitely able to do so. This is a big shift from where we have been in the past two years, and we recognize that this step is exciting for many and also may cause some discomfort for others. Please make the decision that is best for your student and family, and know that we are committed to maintaining an inclusive school community where each circumstance and individual decision will be respected and supported.
Please note, as part of the policy there are three situations where face coverings are still required, which are outlined below:
● By DESE and DPH protocol, students and staff returning from 5-day quarantine following a positive COVID test must follow strict mask use, other than when eating, drinking, or outside, and conduct active monitoring for symptoms, through day 10 of exposure.
● By state public health order, masks will be required in all school health offices.
● By federal public health order, all students and staff are required to wear a mask on school buses.
The full, updated Face Covering Policy can be viewed here: Face Covering Policy

Boosterthon is Coming!
We have partnered with Boosterthon twice before, and they help bring some great energy and excitement to our building and our students always have a blast. We are looking forward to this, and there will be more information coming in the upcoming weeks!
Boot Drive
Recently, two students from the Luce organized an adult winter boot drive to collect boots for those in need. They have dropped off a bin at the Hansen, which is located outside our main building entrance. If you have any adult boots you are looking to clear out, please consider bringing them in and dropping in the bin. They will be donated to local individuals in need.
