Staff Meeting in the Library
Tuesday, Apr 24, 2018, 04:00 PM
Sequiota Elementary School, South Mentor Avenue, Springfield, MO, USA
I will also be closing out Tower Plans this week. Thank you for sharing your EOY reflection with me, I will email you if I have problems finding it. I will schedule summatives as soon as I get them finished in Tower. I appreciate your patience as I try to get all plans closed along with MAP testing this week.
I have several referrals that I will try to work through in the afternoons. I will send emails to let you know the end result of those referrals. Thank you Katie for handling most discipline in my absence last week, I appreciate you.
Lastly, I will be out for family illness this Wednesday, Joslyn will be having surgery to remove a cyst on her foot and mom just needs to be there. Meagan will test students with a 504 in my office on Wednesday in my absence.
Please Welcome...Curtis Thomas
My name is Curtis Thomas, and I serve as the library media specialist at Sequiota. I previously worked at the high school level: I taught broadcast journalism and media at Central High School for two years and I taught English, journalism, and advised the yearbook at Hillcrest after that. I earned my undergraduate degree in English education from Missouri State University and my Master’s degree in English from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
My wife Jenny teaches 3rd grade at Pershing Elementary, and we have an 8 month old son named Louis. We also have two cats, Harvey and Zelda. In our free time we like to read, play video games, go on walks, and spend time with family.
I am thrilled to get to work with the staff and students at Sequiota and look forward to promoting a love of reading and information literacy in this community.

FYI:
Hello Principals,
In December of this past year, emails from the Ellevation platform were sent out to teachers requesting that they log in to complete “monitoring forms” for current English learners and for those students who have exited our program within the past 2 years. These emails were unannounced which caused some confusion and frustration. This time around, I’m taking a moment to reach out ahead of time to let you all know that emails are scheduled to go out again on May 4th (approximately three weeks prior to the end of second semester). If you could please ask teachers to submit these forms, this will help us continue to meet our obligation to monitor the academic progress of students who have exited the ELL program and provide us with invaluable feedback regarding students who are currently designated as English learners. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks,
Jeremy Borland, Ed.S.
Coordinator, English Language Learners (ELL) and Migrant Education Program
