CJHS Update
October 5, 2020
A Message From the Principal...
Without a doubt, the first six weeks has been a challenge for students, parents, and teachers. And so, CISD has made some revisions to the way we will now offer remote learning. We are encouraging all students to return to campus for face-to-face instruction beginning Monday, October 12, 2020.
CISD will no longer offer synchronous instruction, but remote, asynchronous learning will continue with lessons posted in Canvas for those who choose to remain remote. However, there are new revisions to the remote plan which are as follows:
COVID-19 CISD REMOTE LEARNING REVISION
1) CISD will no longer offer remote synchronous learning. Students & families will have two options:
a) Attend classes face-to-face in the traditional manner.
b) Participate in remote asynchronous learning via Canvas
2) Students choosing to participate extra-curricular events and/or take advanced (Pre AP) classes will be required to attend school face-to-face. Students in medically fragile situations would be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
3) Students & families participating in remote asynchronous learning will have the ability to change to face-to-face instruction at any time. However, students will not be permitted to change their method of receiving instruction once they are receiving face-to-face instruction without campus approval.
4) Students & families choosing to participate in remote asynchronous learning will be required to sign an agreement that explains policies and procedures concerning:
a) Attendance requirements
b) Submission of classwork/homework
c) Internet signal capable of supporting online learning
5) Students learning remotely asynchronously will be required to check-in with their teachers at a minimum of once a week via email, phone, or online in addition to completing and submitting all classwork/homework for the week each Friday, by the end of the school day. Campus administrators and teachers may require students to check-in more than once a week.
6) Students learning remotely asynchronously that do not complete and/or submit their classwork/homework each week by the end of the school day each Friday will be subject to Columbus ISD’s Grading Guidelines: Late Work All Classes which states that students have an additional opportunity to submit both “Minor” and “Major” work for a maximum grade of 75%
7) Each Monday (Starting October 19th), attendance for students learning remotely asynchronous will be taken for the previous week. Remote asynchronous students will be counted present if they meet the proof of engagement requirements:
a) Checked-In w/ their teachers a minimum of one time during the week
b) Completed and Submitted their classwork/homework for each class or course
8) If students learning remotely asynchronously do not meet the proof of engagement requirements and are counted absent it will be marked as unexcused. District attendance policies and procedures will be followed and if warranted, truancy charges will be filed with the court.
9) Each campus will monitor the progress of students learning remotely asynchronously. Administrators and/or teachers may require students learning remotely asynchronously to meet at school at a designated time to receive tutoring or take an assessment.
Again, we encourage all students to return to campus for face-to-face instruction at the beginning of the second six weeks, October 12, 2020.
