May 8, 2016- Project Based Learning Celebration week!
Parents,
Happy Mother's Day Weekend to all of you! I hope that your weekend was wonderful and full of great memories! I look forward to seeing you this week for our fun-filled celebration of project-based learning. Our students are showcasing their projects for 3 days and we hope you will be able to join in on the fun! Kindergarten Communities is going to be exceptional and we can't wait to see our students show their leadership and knowledge. Creativity at its best!
We are already approaching the 2nd week of the month and it has been amazing in many ways. Our 3rd graders traveled to the zoo! Our student leaders had a chance to visit the Aquarium and our 5th graders leave for Atlanta to visit the World of Coke on Monday. I have always supported field trips and hope that we will be able to send our students to even more inspirational experiences in the future.
Thank you to our parents who supported the Lanier Arts Festival on Saturday. Your willingness to bring them to rehearsals and events is appreciated. A special shout out to our teachers who are always going over and beyond to make Sycamore shine!
A special thank you to our parent and business partner, Troy Landry, for having 59 elementary students and over 20 adults over for lunch at his restaurant on Friday for our trip to Atlanta. Your generosity will never be forgotten and you made our day! What a great Sycamore family I have! THANK YOU!
Friday was Georgia STEM Day and our students were able to indulge in many STEM like activities that got their minds moving in thrilling ways. Thank you for embracing STEM and supporting us on our way to certification in a couple of years.
Great News!
CCRPI is the Georgia Department's report card that replaced AYP from years ago. With the new, more challenging Georgia Milestones assessment replacing the CRCT, we managed to earn a score of 84.1 out of 100. The previous year we scored an 89. Though we declined by 5 points, we were still on top! We were the 3rd highest Title I school in the district out of 79 elementary schools and ranked #24 out of 79 elementary schools. We were the 2nd highest school in the district after Sugar Hill ES. What a great accomplishment and I can't be happier. It goes to show that tenacity, hard work positivity will pay off! Sycamore is making great history and I am glad you are with me to see it all. I hope you are proud of your child and our school!
Counselor's Corner:
We had a great improvement in our perfect attendance percentages for the month of April. Over 72% of all students at Sycamore had perfect attendance for the month of April. This was our second highest percentage for the school year! The third grade is the one to beat.... They are pulling the "three-peat" winning the highest amount of perfect attendance for March and April. Way to go 3rd grade! Ms. Arkema's class had the highest percentage for an individual class with 95%, which is fantastic! Let's keep up the great work and make sure we are here on time!
