Rose Glen Elementary - SIGNIFICANTLY EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS
Dear Families,
Thank you for your interest and engagement in your child’s progress this year!
As you may be aware, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has released the 2017-18 state School Report Cards for all public schools in Wisconsin. I’m writing you today to share our scores so that as a school community we can celebrate our success!
The Report Cards are intended to help all schools and districts utilize data on specific measures to target improvement efforts to ensure students are ready for the next educational step – including the next grade level, graduation, college, and careers. According to the data, we significantly exceeded expectations again for the 2017-18 school year. We are proud of our accomplishments and the growth made by our students.
It is important to remember that one test score taken on one day does not reflect your child’s overall progress. However, our Report Card highlights our collective efforts to ensure that all students are reaching their highest potential. We could not do it without your support and your continued commitment to your child and to our school.
You can access our School Report Card here. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any further questions.
Report Card Information - End of Trimester 1
Guatemala Sale This Week!
Dear Rose Glen Families,
During lunch times this week we will be selling items from the famous open market in Chichicastenango, Guatemala, the home of our partners in education at Flavio Rodas School. All the proceeds will be going directly to help the school construct a much needed kitchen where lunch is prepared for the students each day. There are items that cost between $1 and $10, with a few more expensive things for sale. Kids might think about their holiday gift list!
You may recall last November we had a visit from 16 teachers from Flavio Rodas. They spent quite a bit of time in our classrooms with the students. Many traditions and learning experiences were exchanged. It was a wonderful experience for our students ~ and our Guatemalan friends! They are so very appreciative of all the support Rose Glen families have given over the years.
Thank you once again for your support!
Raptor System
We would like to make you aware of a security upgrade at all of our schools.
Beginning Monday, Nov. 26th, all visitors who enter a school building during normal school hours will be required to check into the school office and present a valid Identification ( Drivers License, State Issued ID, Military ID, or Consular ID ). Upon arrival, the identification will be scanned using the Raptor Visitor Management System. This software was purchased using funds provided by the State of Wisconsin School Safety Grant. Raptor provides immediate, real-time background checks on individuals to identify sex offenders and deny them entry.
Once a visitor has been scanned, the system will print a visitor ID badge that is worn by the visitor for the duration of their visit. We ask that the visitor present their ID each time they visit and a new visitor badge will be printed. As staff members, we ask that you contact the office anytime a visitor is seen in your school without an ID that has been generated by Raptor. Of course, a School District of Waukesha ID is expected to be worn by all employees while in school.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding with this new procedure, and know that you share our desire to keep our students and our buildings safe. Thank you.

Frequently asked questions:
Who needs to enroll their child for Kindergarten in the Waukesha District?
Families who are not enrolled in the School District’s 4K program or new families to the School District of Waukesha with a five-year-old (or child who will turn five on or before September 1, 2019)
If my child goes to 4K at a District community site, do I still need to enroll him/her for Kindergar
If your child goes to any of the District 4K programs, you do not need to fill out any more enrollment paperwork. Even if your child goes to 4K at a Community Partner site, we have already enrolled him or her in your neighborhood school.
When should I do this – how soon?
The District’s enrollment period to register for Kindergarten is December 1, 2018-February 1, 2019. So, if your child is not in 4K, you should enroll him/her for kindergarten as soon as possible. If your child goes to 4K, watch for a form to come home with him or her that re-verifies the accuracy of the enrollment information we have on file. Make any necessary changes and send it back to your 4K site with your child. There is no need to re-enroll for Kindergarten and we will make any changes you indicate on your child’s information sheet.
When will I find out about Kindergarten Orientation at my child’s school?
Your school will contact you in April or May about Kindergarten Orientation for you and your child. Every school holds their own K Orientation. We are trying to make our K Orientation as supportive of children’s transition to school as we can!
Who do I call if I still have questions about Kindergarten enrollment?
Questions regarding Kindergarten enrollment and attendance area schools can be directed to the Enrollment Office at 262-970-1024.

Lost and Found!
Please take a look at the below items and let us know if you recognize any of them. As many of you are aware, we tend to accumulate A LOT of lost items throughout the year. We are trying to minimize this for the upcoming year. Each week we will send a picture of lost items for you to claim. If they are not claimed then we will ensure that they go to a donation center in our area. What is most helpful is if you label your child's clothing and school items. We can then easily identify the item and make sure that the lost item is found and hopefully also save you a trip to have to buy another one. Please label items such as jackets, sweatshirts, water bottles, and lunchboxes. As winter approaches please make sure that you label boots, snow pants, hats, and mittens. Black snow pants seem to be a favorite here at Rose Glen and so labeling them will ensure that everyone has their own black snow pants and that if a pair gets lost then we can ensure it gets to the right child. Thank you for your help with this and looking forward to year with minimal lost items :) Please email Cathe Sweet at csweet@waukesha.k12.wi.us if you recognize any of the items.
Six Flags Reading Program
For completing 6 hours of reading outside of school time, students in kindergarten through grade 5 are eligible to earn a free ticket for Six Flags Great America. Please see the following link for more details and a reading log for you to print if you choose to have your child(ren) participate in this program. Reading logs will not be sent home with the students; it will be your responsibility to print them for your use. If you have no way to print a reading log, please contact your child's teacher and one will be sent home.
Your child may begin reading and recording his/her reading minutes any time! Completed reading logs are due by Friday, February 15th.
Please note: Six Flags does not allow 4K students to participate in this program.
Any questions can be directed to Mrs. Krahn, Rose Glen's coordinator for Read to Succeed.

MY SCHOOL ANYWHERE - SCHOOL ONLINE DIRECTORY
Did you know that Rose Glen has an online family directory? Have you signed up yet? Having access to this directory is a great way for you to stay connected with other school families. It also is the way that you would get contact information for your child’s classmates, including information you would need for sending out birthday invitations via email or U.S. mail. (Please remember that unless your child is inviting the entire class, party invitations may not be distributed at school.)
Another important reason you may want to be included in the directory is to give your child the opportunity to be invited to birthday parties or other gatherings with classmates, since neither the teachers nor the office staff is able to share contact information with you. Hopefully you have already signed up for the family directory. If you have not, please take a few minutes to do so.
