Otsego Junior High
Newsletter - October 5, 2018
FROM THE DESK OF MR. RIFE
Fall is here! I hope everyone enjoyed the last few days of summer. I just wanted to update everyone on all of the new changes this year at the Junior High school. Block scheduling seems to be going very well, we have begun Intervention/Enrichment time during our Success Period. If you have any interests or talents that you would be willing to share with our students, and can come in during the week at 10:15 AM for about 45 minutes, we would love to hear from you. We have some presenters that are enriching our student's lives with topics such as carpentry, robotics, writing, and leadership activities. If you or someone you know would like to volunteer their time to make a difference in our Junior High student's lives, please contact me with your ideas.
Our original date of October 6th for the Cars 4 Classrooms has been postponed. They contacted me on Tuesday and could not fulfill our original request. I apologize for the late notice.

ELEMENTARY PTO HOLIDAY SHOP
Hello Otsego teachers and staff. It seems school has just begun but PTO has already started planning our annual holiday shop at the elementary school. PTO is trying something new this year. Our holiday shop will be open for students only on December 6&7, with all items priced $5 and below. PTO will then reopen the holiday shop Saturday, December 8 from 9-12 with item prices higher. At this time we invite the community to come and do some of their own shopping. PTO will also be hosting a breakfast with Santa where kids can write letters to Santa, sit on Santa’s lap, color a picture or make a craft.
Pto is seeking teacher/staff “crafters” that would be interested in bringing there items to sell. Tables will be set up for you to display and sell your items to the community. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Angie Shidler @ 419-460-7216
NOTES FROM MRS. GRAY - SCHOOL NURSE
Attention Parents:
Students taking prescribed medication need to have a form filled out and signed by the prescribing physician. New forms are needed at the start of EVERY school year. Forms do not carry over from the prior year. It is your responsibility to take care of this with your physician. No medication will be given without a signed form. It is not up to the school to take care of this.
Over the counter medication such as Motrin, Tylenol, Benadryl, etc. is available in the office if needed. Forms are available online. We have had several students in the office complaining of a headache already. This is to help cut down on having to call parents to bring medication to the office or sending children home.
Allergies are in full swing. This can impact your child in a major way physically, runny nose, itchy/watery eyes, stomach ache from drainage, headache…, as well as concentration in class. If your child has allergies please medicate them on a regular basis during allergy season.

SERVICE LEARNING OPPORTUNITY
ATTENTION ALL JR. High FCS STUDENTS!
If your child is enrolled in a seventh or eighth grade FCS class with Mrs. Kao they need to begin thinking about where they are going to complete their hours for the service learning project. The site in which they plan on going to for this project must be cleared by Mrs. Kao, so please make sure they are doing this as soon as possible. This project requires that your child completes 5 hours of some form of volunteer service. This is a great opportunity for them to gain some work experience and to also get more involved in our community. All hours for this service learning project must be completed by November 20th, 2018
FOOD SERVICE DEPARTMENT
To better assist our parents, we have implemented an online free and reduced meal application. This will eliminate having to get a paper application, filling it out and returning it to your child’s school.
Fill out the online application under www.lunchapplication.com, just as you would the paper application. Once the application is completed we are notified so we can complete the application process. This will reduce your notification time.
Please make sure you have a correct mailing address on the application, so the notification letter gets to you.
