District Family Newsletter
Summer 2020
Dear ECSD Families,
I just love this time of year with the new growing season after a long winter. The grass is green, flowers are blooming and wildlife is out-and-about as animals are raising their newly born young. There is so much newness and freshness to this time of year. I feel energized and ready to take on any challenge that comes my way.
I do miss some very fun activities this spring though. I miss the hustle and bustle of our students in all of their school and extra/co-curricular activities. There is a normal and natural flow to spring with those activities and I certainly can’t wait until all of us can be back to enjoying them. I encourage each of our students and families to find some sense of normalcy by discovering ways to stay connected through outdoor activities as much as possible. Maybe a bike ride, chalk drawings on the driveway or fishing at Lake Leota Park. Any activity that can help families stay connected mentally and emotionally is so important right now.
It is my hope that you are finding ways to enjoy this time of year and are appreciating all that comes with it. I completely understand that the COVID 19 has changed our lives to varying degrees, but that should not stop any of us from finding activities that keep our spirits up and our energy high. For example, my wife and I have spent a great deal of time walking our dogs each day. Our walks have provided a daily connection for us. We have been reminded of how important we are to each other.
I hope that each of you are finding joy in this time of year. I hope that you are in some way finding that even little things in life are important and can bring pleasure to your everyday life. I am hopeful that life as we once knew it before COVDI 19 will return soon and will be even better as we reconnect with all the people that are so important to us.
I wish all of you the best this spring and into the upcoming summer. Stay happy, healthy and safe.

I encourage you to intentionally take time to care for the health and wellness of yourself and your family. Our website will continue to host a variety of academic and social/emotional resources here for you to access over the summer.
Please also remember that, although the Wisconsin Stay at Home order has been lifted for Rock County, please continue to protect yourself and your family when you are out in the public by practicing social distancing, washing your hands often, avoid touching your nose, mouth, and eyes, and wearing a mask if necessary.

Dear Families,
Thank you so much for engaging in this journey with us. We appreciate all that you are doing to support your child through this shift to learning at home! You are being asked to do the impossible. Together, we are doing the best we can with the challenges that we face. There are no words to express how much we miss your children! They are such a huge part of our lives giving us joy and purpose. We are trying to stay connected by celebrating the TRIS school community through special activities each week to help us remember that we are in this together, not as a single classroom, but as an entire school.
Thank you for giving yourself grace and for giving us grace. We are making it through and as always, our children are surprising us and teaching us along the way. I hope that you continue to find time to laugh and enjoy your family as we move into the warmth of summer.
I will end by sharing a quote that speaks to me and helps me to find peace in all of this chaos, “We cannot shield our children from this crisis, but it’s quite possible that because we can’t, they will grow and stretch in uncomfortable but meaningful ways. Parents/guardians give yourself grace. Remember that you are being asked to do the impossible.”
With gratitude,
Barb
Details Coming soon: Yearbook Pick Up/Book Drop Off
We are planning an opportunity for families to come to TRIS curbside to pick up yearbooks if ordered and drop off books that students took home in March. The tentative date is May 29th but it will depend on the arrival of the Yearbooks. We would also use this opportunity to recognize our 5th graders. Staff will be outside social distancing and waiving. At this time, we are not going to collect Chromebooks. We would like you to keep the Chromebooks over the summer and we will collect them in the Fall. More details to come as we get closer to the date.

Levi Leonard Elementary School
Students, families and staff at Levi Leonard have come together to make virtual learning a success. This stretch has certainly come with challenges for everyone involved, but relationships, learning and fun have continued throughout the fourth quarter of the 2020-2021 school year.
Instruction continues through Google Classrooms and connections between students, their peers and their teachers have been maintained through the use of Zoom sessions each day.
We’re so proud of the Levi Leonard students, families and staff for all their hard work and flexibility throughout this stretch. As instruction in every content area from math to reading to art, gym and music has continued, we’ve had a lot of fun along the way.

The Spring Season will be ending on or around May 22nd, 2020
Our coaches are attending virtual meetings on Coaching Development every Monday:
Topics Covered - Supportive measures for student-athletes (resources, daily practice talks, lifting/conditioning, and getting to know the person, not just the student-athlete)
- Facebook or other social media websites where we can get student-athletes to interact and stay active
- Virtual Practices
- 3D Coaching Development – topics include: Guest Speaker – Mitch Hull, Connecting to Parents of student-athletes, incorporating middle school athletics, how to create an athlete centered learning focus now that everything is virtual, connecting via social media, and other topics as we see fit.
Coaches have been implementing the following:
- 3D Coaching – Head coaches – have conversations with your assistants to continue to build this mindset and develop their coaching
- Reach out on a daily basis to your athletes – give resources on skills/drills, encouragement videos, weight training/conditioning, and get to know the student-athletes as people.
- Set up a virtual practice 1-2 times per week (use the video that is on the shared drive doc that has other resources to help with this)
- Attend the Monday virtual meetings led by me, please give updates and other information that can help the group of coaches attending. If you can’t attend please have one of your assistants attend, or have your entire staff attend. Whatever works best.. the more the merrier!
- Reach out to your youth programs or middle school if you have a program and make sure they are incorporating their student-athletes with the help of your guidance.
We are currently celebrating our graduating senior student-athletes on Saturdays. Check out the posts of these incredible individuals on our social media websites.
