Northside June 2019 Newsletter
Teach.Learn.Care
Thank you
Dear Northside Families,
It is unreal to think that we are within two weeks of this school year being finished! The year has flown by, but we have had a wonderful year and I think all students, teachers, staff, parents, and guardians should celebrate that!
I wanted to share my sincerest appreciation to all of you as I finish my last year as Northside's building Principal. On June 24th, I will transition to my new position in the Eastland School District as Superintendent. I am excited for the new adventure but this transition is not without sadness. My seven years as Principal has afforded me the opportunity to work with some of the finest educators in the state who care deeply for their students, with parents who are strong advocates for their child's education, and with the most talented and amazing group of students!
I cannot thank the school community enough for the support and care you have shown throughout my tenure as Principal. Northside is an exceptional school in large part because of the partnership among the students, staff, parents, and community. I will always have a special place in my heart for Northside and Geneseo.
I wish you all the best!
- Mr. Kashner

What is MAP Growth?
MAP Growth: Reading & Mathematics; 1 Assessment for each subject area.
Reports show growth and opportunities for support.
Chromebooks are used for testing with fast results!
Why is it important that I understand this assessment?
This was our District's first year of implementing MAP Growth Kindergarten through 5th grade. We are excited to be able to use this assessment to better understand your child's strengths and needs in reading and mathematics.
We decided to send reports home at the end of the year in order to communicate a full year of growth with you, as well as give our teachers time to best understand the new assessment and make sure it was providing us with the information we were seeking. Next year, reports will come home with the cycles of testing: Fall, Winter, Spring.
HERE is a sample of a student progress report. This document will help you better understand your student's MAP scores and growth!

Weed and Pest Control Treatments
buildings and grounds during the spring and summer months.
It is our intent to have Emerick Pest Control, of Geneseo, IL, treat particular locations in each
building this summer. The pesticide application schedule is as follows:School/Building Date
Northside Elementary School June 24-June 28, 2019Southwest Elementary School June 24-June 28, 2019
Millikin Elementary School June 24-June 28, 2019
Unit Office June 24-June 28, 2019
Geneseo High School June 24-June 28, 2019
Geneseo Middle School June 24-June 28, 2019
On the exterior of the buildings, our licensed maintenance staff will apply weed control during
the weeks of March 25-29, 2019; June 10-14, 2019 and July 22-26, 2019. If the weather does
not permit the treatment outdoors, it will be done on the next day that weather does allow
treatment. Substantial rain and/or wind would cause treatment to be postponed to the next day.
When the outside treatments are completed, signs will be posted, as required by law, that the area has been treated.
If you have any questions, please call the Unit Office (309-945-0450). Thank you.
