November Edition
P.E.
Teacher: Jeff Hughes
E.A.: Jo Bazan
K-5th Graders are all starting their hockey units. By the 13th, we will be actually playing hockey.
K-2nd will be working on tying shoe laces. So, you might want to ask for a demonstration at home.
Baseball Glove use: K-2 will be working on using a baseball glove. This always takes more hands that two P.E. teachers can provide. If any adults in your family or extended family are available to help, please contact me at Jeff.hughes@pfisd.net or call my cell at #512-966-6952. This will be almost daily from now until about November 13th.
Y-Ties “Elastic Shoe Laces” will be on sale in the Riojas foyer for $5 per pair November 15th - December 7th. They make great rewards or gifts and the profits go toward helping to pay for more P.E. or recess equipment.
Art
Here's a few fun highlights from October and information for the month ahead:
Kinder and 1st grade took a look at artwork by the surrealist Joan Miro, creating oil pastel drawings inspired by their dreams. Like Miro, they used geometric and organic shapes to make playful portraits. We will continue our investigation of shapes and how artists use them throughout the month of November. Encourage your kiddos to draw at home, reinforcing their understanding of shape types as they go.
3rd grade has completed Abstract Flags just in time for our Veterans Day celebration! Their artwork will be gracing our main hallway prior to the big day. Take time to admire their hard work!
If you are interested in volunteering in and/or outside of the art room and have not had the opportunity to sign up to receive emails from me, please shoot me a message via email: brianna.hinchey@pfisd.net. Thanks!
Music
Teacher: Paula-Rae Manning
It’s hard to believe it’s already November! We have been working hard, singing loud, and putting on the finishing touches for Veterans Day.
As we move forward, Kinder, 1st and 2nd will continue to practice beat and add more notes to our scale, and will even begin to write music! 3rd grade will begin learning songs for our Winter concert and sing-a-long on December 14 at 6 p.m. 4th grade will learn more about the music staff, music terms, and start writing more difficult music, while 5th grade will begin prepping for our big 70’s show in February.
As turkey day approaches, we will be getting in the holiday spirit with the song “Super Turkey” while the students and I play the auto-harp! So much fun coming your way!!!!
Library
The inaugural Pumpkin Decorating Contest was a huge success (pictures included below)! Thank you to everyone who participated. I heard over and over again how much fun everyone had decorating their pumpkins. Start thinking of what you want to do next year!
The holidays are fast approaching! It’s the perfect time for you to open up a parent library account so your child can have plenty of books over the holidays. Parents are able to check out up to 10 items at a time. There is a short form to fill out, and then it takes me about 10 minutes to create the account. Just enough time for you to find the books you want to check out! Here’s a link to the form if you want to print it and have it filled out before coming in: https://goo.gl/9RyU51

Shout Outs!
Thank you from P.E. for being such good role models for your kids in regards to eating some fruits and vegetables with each meal, drinking lots of water, and getting some vigorous play (exercise) for 30 minutes or more per day! Your example is very powerful.
