Read-A-Thon News
On Monday, Jessica Reho, Executive Director of LVGW came to PES to collect this year's donations in the amount of $3,422.90! She was speechless. Thank you again to all the generous families who donated and to all the amazing students here at PES who did so much reading!
Visiting Authors
Visiting Authors:
In April, we will welcome 2 visiting authors at PES!
On April 26th, local children’s author and music performer, Ryan SanAngelo, will conduct an entertaining and informative program filled with books and music for students in Kindergarten and 1st Grade. His books and presentations have received many excellent reviews.
On April 28th, we are pleased to finally welcome author and educator Phil Bildner for students in Grades 2-5. Phil is a full time author and visits schools all over the world. He speaks to kids about reading, writing, creativity, and empathy.
We are conducting book sales prior to both authors' arrivals, at a discounted price. On the day of the visits, these books will be personally autographed. Please see the attached flyers. Bildner - SanAngelo
A huge thank you to the PES PTO for funding these exciting and enriching programs!
Read and Roll
Rollermagic is creating a new program that gives kids a free pass to roller magic in Waterbury for reading 5 books. All PES students are invited to participate in this. Each student will get a bookmark to take home and fill out this week. This ties in perfectly with our "at home" Book-a-Day Challenge! If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Mastropietro in the Media Center.
GotSneakers fundraiser
The Pomperaug High School Baseball team is participating in a sneaker collection fundraiser called GotSneakers? This is a multipurpose fundraiser educating students and families about the importance of recycling and reusing sneakers.
GotSneakers fundraiser overview:
Collect sneakers of all kinds, brands, and sizes – everyday sneakers, athletic sneakers, running sneakers, basketball sneakers, turf shoes, plastic/rubber sole baseball cleats, plastic/rubber sole soccer cleats
Fun facts:
- Sneakers take 30-40 years to decompose in a landfill
- 200 million pairs of sneakers per year end up in landfills
- Petroleum from sneaker soles pollutes air and soil as they decompose
- 600+ million people in the world don’t own a pair of sneakers
- Good condition donations get sent to those in need – all others get recycled properly

Pomperaug High School Baseball hopes we can count on support from you. Let’s all work together to educate our community, promote recycle and reuse, save the environment, and help others along the way!
March Book A Day Challenge
During the month of March, we will challenge students and staff to read at least ONE book a day. The PES PTO has generously purchased 5 sets of 25 books for us to use again this year!
Students will also be challenged to read one picture book a day at home during the month of March. All students who complete this task and return a reading log, will be invited to an ice cream party with Mrs. Furman and Mrs. Mastropietro!
