Tree Planting with Dr Elaine Lewis
As a part of the Cross Curriculum Project the students in participated in a tree planting afternoon with Dr Elaine Lewis. During this gardening experience the students planted native plants along the front of the school and pulled weeds from the bushland near the library. The students have been learning about the importance and fragility of our ecosystem linked to conservation efforts they can make. During this learning experience the students learnt how to plant native flora and were empowered to make a difference to their environment.
Technology and Enterprise
Last night at an Ipad Professional Learning session I presented the students work using the Ipad program sock puppets last term. This program was used during Anti-bullting week to present a puppet show on strategies to stop bullying and the role of the bystander. The students puppet shows were showcased to approximately 300 teachers, deputy principals, principals, and other professionals from the education field in the metropolitan area. I received comments from a range of colleges about how impressed they were with the students work and their confidence in using ipads to express their ideas and reflect their learning. This was a very proud moment for me as a teacher, the students were enthusiastic in undergoing ipad learning and worked really hard to produce excellent work.
This semester the students have been learning about using a computer. We have started with the basics of turning it on, logging on, using mathletics and bug club independently and use of the internet. to support this at home please allow your child to log in to their homework each week on Mathletics and Bug Club independently.
Athletics Carnival Information for Participants & Coolbinia Community
General Information
· Food from canteen TBC
· P&C stalls TBC
· Please bring along your own chair or rug, if possible, as seating will be minimal
Please remember
· Space can be tight around the finish line and to give our judges the best chance to make a decision, can all spectators remain behind the barriers
· Congratulate your child on effort, not placing’s
· Have fun and enjoy the day
*** Please not that the day of the Athletics Carnival has changed. This is due to the weather that we have been experiencing of late. If it continues and we leave the carnival on week 8, it would severely limit our days we can utilise as a back up. Apologies for any family that this change inconveniences, I believe this change is in the best interest of the school and students ***

Loose Change for Books
As you know the Coolbinia Primary School Book Fair is fast approaching and this year, to make it easier for busy parents, we are running a ‘Loose Change for Books’ Program.
‘Loose Change for Books’ is all about collecting loose change and pooling the money to purchase more books from the Book Fair for our kids
It enables families and friends to donate if they are are unable to attend the Book Fair (20th – 22nd of August) or would rather donate than purchase a book. The books purchased will be added to the library for all to use. Donations can be bought in from Monday 5th Aug until Friday 23rd Aug. There will be a collection container in both the front office and library. Just look for the symbol of gold coins:
Loose Change For Books And remember: Every cent counts!
