Ozark’s Deeds Receives Heroes Among Us Award
The Missouri School Boards’ Association has named Ozark School District Director of School Police Capt. Mark Deeds as the Center for Education Safety Heroes Among Us Award winner for 2022.
“I’m grateful to have a supportive administrative team that understands the importance of school safety. The men and women of the Ozark School Police Department are dedicated to our District and our community,” Deeds said. “It is our mission to provide a safe and secure learning environment. It is an honor to receive this award and to serve our students, staff and community.”
Deeds, who has been director of school police at Ozark for nine years, is commissioned through the Christian County Sheriff’s Office and has 37 years of experience in law enforcement.
“Capt. Deeds is well respected by every entity in our school district, and our staff, students and parents seek out his advice for a variety of situations that arise daily,” said Ozark Executive Director of Student Services Dr. Kim Fitzpatrick, who nominated Deeds for the award.
OHS Marching Band Ends 2022 Season on High Note
The Ozark High School Pride of Ozark Marching Band recently ended their outstanding 2022 marching season, placing in the top five at all four of their competitions and walking away with first place at their last competition in Reeds Spring.
The show titled “Uninvited” featured music by Camille Saint-Saens, Aaron Copland, Alanis Morissette and John Paul Chapman, as well as some impressively large-scale creepy crawlers that dawned the field during performances both at competitions and halftime at football games.

Ozark to Host Parent Meeting on Social Media, Sex Trafficking Nov. 14
On Nov. 14, parents and the community are invited to join Ozark School District in a Be Alert meeting discussing the realities of sex trafficking and how social media apps can play a role.
“This program gives parents insight into what their children are exposed to with access to so many online apps and resources,” said Executive Director of Student Services Dr. Kim Fitzpatrick. “Information from this program exposes the dangers of online trafficking and how easy it is for our kids to make one bad decision that can be life-changing.”
The meeting will be led by Founder and President of The Stop Trafficking Project Russ Tuttle.
“We need to change the paradigm of how a lot of parents view students and their online life,” Tuttle said. “A lot of parents just get angry with kids and they don't really understand how important online life is to a lot of students.”
