Day 60.....Celebrating and Looking forward to continued success in the JROB Learning Community
This week we will come together as departments and grade levels to analyze our progress toward "end of year" goals...looking forward to our work together.
In honor of day 60!!!!, I invite you to dress with me in your favorite "60's day outfit" , and also join us in the lounge for a Thankful Thursday staff lunch:)
Grades of Green Assemblies - Tuesday/November 28 - Our site is "going Green", please attend the assembly to know how we can all work together to recycle and save the environment.
JROB's PTSA is on the move........going from 38 memberships in 16-17 to 79 membership in 17-18! The PTSA held a successful "get together and planning meeting" on November 16. During the meeting PTSA families came together to discuss goals and next steps for supporting Robinson's success through parent involvement and leadership. If you have not had the opportunity to join as a member, membership is always open!!
Teacher Clarity...How do you know students "got" the day's learning intention?
Beginning and ending each period (MS) and or portion(s) of the day's schedule(ES) with the learning intention: What, Why and How is key!
Not only is it important for students to know what they are learning, why they are learning and how they are showing understanding(success criteria) but it is equally as important for the teacher to be mindful of knowing if students actually got it. In daily/weekly planning, assessment of the day's learning is the beginning stage vs the ending stage in planning. As a school community we are still in the learning stages but just a couple of tips to support:
What - is the standard or skill (not worksheet, not test, not book)
Why - is this relevant, why is this important (transfer)?
How - students demonstration of the standard/learning
Let's continue to practice to support consistency and alignment of instructional practices that lead to .72 effect size of growth.
Monitoring the Environment - Teachers should be actively engaged in the learning environment during class periods. Actively engaged means: Monitoring the learning environment (up and down the aisle), 1:1 or small group conferring with students, during guided practice teachers are asking and probing students thinking if noticing misconceptions.
Student Engagement - Many classrooms are integrating technology into daily or weekly practices, Yeah! As we engage in more integration, Tech Time should be intentional and purposeful (What, Why and How) towards grade level standards not gaming or as a free reward times.
