Monthly Message
I hope this update finds you well! I am excited to share with you all the wonderful things your children have been doing in class this month.
Firstly, our classroom has been filled with sunshine and positivity as our students have been working hard and making great progress in their studies. In particular, we have been focusing on developing our reading skills by learning how to read and answer questions from informational texts. We will move into analyzing fictional stories and develop strategies on how to question the characters, and main idea, and analyze certain phrases and shades of meaning. Our students are showing great enthusiasm and curiosity as they explore new topics and expand their knowledge.
In health, we have been learning about the digestive system and how our bodies process the food we eat. We have learned about the various body parts that help us digest food and the order in which it happens.
In social studies, We have also been exploring ways to take care of our community by discussing issues like recycling, pollution, and energy conservation. Our students are showing a strong commitment to making positive changes in their local environment by helping our school with recycling classroom recycling bins.
In math, we are becoming experts at fractions! Our students have been working hard to master concepts like equivalent fractions, and using online tools to help us with different denominators.
In language arts, we have been studying poems and learning how to analyze and appreciate them. We are also excited to announce that we will be creating our very own poetry books this month! Your child is expected to illustrate at least one poem using our book creator app on Clever, and I have been delighted with what they came up with so far. Please look below for student work so far.
Overall, it has been a busy and productive month in our classroom, and I am so proud of the class's hard work and dedication. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your children's education.
Student's used their kindness and compassion skills.

Important Parent Information
As we get closer, I will be sending home more information and a request for parents to donate healthy snacks for our back counter .
During test sessions, it will be required for all students to be quiet and focused at their desks. For some students, this may be difficult and frequent breaks may be limited. Please encourage your child to do their best and attend school.

How does AR work in our classroom?
What is Accelerated Reader? Accelerated Reader, or “AR”, is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor children’s reading practice.
- Your child picks a book at his own level and reads it at his own pace. Emerging readers may have the books read to them, they can read with someone or they can read independently.
- When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.)
- AR gives both children and teachers feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice.
- Your child is expected to pass 5 tests per week OR 1 chapter book a week.
- Students will also be rewarded for reaching different point levels.
