From the Principal...

I hope this newsletter finds everyone well. Mr. Popper's Penguins has been a great success! Continue to read each night.

Below are some items you can talk with your child about from Chapters 3, 4, and 5.

  • Surely he had heard that sound before at the Drake Expedition movies. (a journey or voyage undertaken by a group of people with a particular purpose, esp. that of exploration, scientific research)

  • Math question from Chapter 3:
Captain Cook was in the bathtub- Sometimes he seemed to be counting the steps it took- six steps for the length, two steps for the width, six steps for the length again, and two more for the width. What is the area and perimeter of the bathtub?

  • "Mister," he said, "you don't need no ventilating holes in that there door." (cause air to enter and circulate freely in (a room, building, etc.)
~Talk with your child about quotation marks. Use quotation marks [ “ ” ] to set off material that represents quoted or spoken language.

~You can tell a lot about a character by the way they speak- Did you notice the double negative?

Happy Reading,
