Brookwood Oratorical Contest
This quarter, fifth graders all across Forsyth County have been participating in the annual Optimist International Oratorical Speech Contest. The topic for this year's speech is "IS THERE A FINE LINE BETWEEN OPTIMISM AND REALITY?" All Brookwood's fifth grade students wrote a speech on the assigned topic and delivered it in front of their classmates and teachers! Each writing class chose one student to compete in Brookwood's Oratorical Finals.
On Friday, February 8, 2019 Page Avel from Mrs. Davis’ homeroom class was chosen to represent Brookwood at the Forsyth County Elementary Semifinals, which will be held on Monday evening, February 25 at the Forsyth County Courthouse.
Congratulations Page and best of luck in the County Semifinals! Also, congratulations to all of the classroom winners who participated in Brookwood's Oratorical Finals. All of the speeches were amazing!

Kids heart Challenge
We are participating in the Kids Heart Challenge at Brookwood Elementary. We will focus on exercising every day, eating fruits and vegetables, drinking water and avoiding tobacco and too much sodium! Our goal is help students focus on developing healthy and kind hearts. Students can earn a glow-in-the-dark wristband when they register online and accept a heart healthy challenge – we ask students to choose one heart healthy activity to do every day from now until February 28 – our hope is that this activity will become a heart healthy habit! Students can choose one of the following challenges:
- Drink water instead of sugary drinks
- Eat one fruit or vegetable with every meal
- Exercise for 60 minutes everyday
- Do one kind deed for someone else everyday
To register and accept the challenge, just go to www.heart.org/kidsheartchallenge and select Brookwood Elementary School. No donations are needed to register, but wouldn’t it be cool if we had more students take a heart healthy challenge than any other school?
Keep an eye out for info on our upcoming Exceptional Children's Week (March 4-8). Order a "Be Kind To Everyone" shirt to wear on Friday, March 8. $7 per shirt will be donated back to our Change For Chairs fundraiser for our classrooms. Our goal is $7,000 so we can provide every teacher with a budget for active seating options in their classroom. Order your t-shirts on mypaymentsplus.com before February 14. Click iMove – Change for Chairs to learn more about what active seating looks like. Contact tachihahn@gmail.com with any questions.
