Notes From the Nurse
This month our school nurse is conducting hearing and vision screenings on those students who were not screened in the 5th grade due to the pandemic She is also working on screening students who are new to the district and students who have not been screened in several years. If your student is screened and fails either screening or another problem is identified, our school nurse will send a referral form home to parents detailing instructions for further testing.
AVID
Congratulations to the newly selected AVID students at Gentry Middle School for the 22-23 school year. There were over 70 applications and lots of qualified candidates. After careful consideration, acceptance letters, as well as letters of regret, were sent home last week with the students. Ms. Vaughn and Mrs. Hunter are very excited to work with these students next school year. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Hunter, the AVID Site Coordinator, at bhunter@cpsk12.org

Media Balance - Making Healthy Media Choices
Tweens/teens spend a lot of time in front of media. But too much media can interfere with getting enough exercise, doing homework, being with friends, and spending time with family. It also can contribute to obesity, attention and learning problems, and sleep problems.
Media time can include things like researching a school project, creating music or art, or interacting with friends via social media. It also includes watching TV shows, streaming videos, and playing games.
Parents should set limits to balance media time and stay aware of what their tweens are doing online. One way you can start is by turning off all screens during meals and at least an hour before bedtime. Keep devices with screens out of your tween's bedroom after bedtime and don't allow a TV in your tween's bedroom. This will help your tween get enough sleep.
We start early and we see a lot of sleepy students at Gentry, so helping them get into good sleeping vs screen time habits will make them a more productive student.
MAP Testing
We’re fast approaching MAP and EOC testing!
Dates: April 19-21, April 26-27, and EOC May 3-4.
Testing will begin promptly at 7:30 am and complete by 9:30 am during the MAP testing window. Those students who arrives after 7:30 am during the testing window will remain in the cafeteria and then be rescheduled for the following week so that they can make up MAP testing. More information to follow soon.
