The Siegrist Star
Week of December 5, 2022
REINDEER SHIRTS!!
We hope that you had a great week. Here at Siegrist the tradition continues! This is the 26th year that Platte County Kindergarten students have been making their reindeer shirts.
Students used their hands and their foot to make these festive holiday shirts. They will be wearing them every Friday until winter break. Thank you to all the volunteers that came in to help our students make this special memory.
This week in our Siegrist Star we have been able to capture moments that are creating new special memories. We hope you enjoy!
Have a wonderful weekend and we will see our Siegrist leaders bright and early on Monday morning!
All the best,
Mrs. Johna-Kaye Sutton
One of our goals at Siegrist is to build and strengthen relationships between the business partners that support our school and our Siegrist families. This year our business partners are displaying artwork made by Siegrist students. Currently we have artwork displayed at Witt, Hicklin, Snider & Fain and Nodaway Valley Bank, both in Platte City.
Abigail Banark, a current PCHS and NCAPS student and former Siegrist student organized a travel sized toiletry drive for the Cerner Charitable Foundation. She was overwhelmed by the collections the students brought in for the drive. The class that brought in the most items in each grade level earned a popsicle party. Abigail is pictured with just one grade level of toiletry items.
Here are the results:
Siegrist students collected 1,703 items. The following classes had the highest number of items for their grade:
McMillian
Gilbert
Wright, A
Jeffries
Schmidt
Bogart
The overall winner was Ms. Abbey Wright's class with 123 items collected.
Thank you everyone who helped Abigail with her charitable drive!
5th Grade Concert
4/5 Grade Choir Concert
Bring on the Snow!!
The 5th graders were back on the big stage on November 30th for their performance of Bring on the Snow! It is the first time that they have had a performance on the stage since First Grade!
The show included skits about the winter season as well as some pretty corny jokes!
They have been working really hard in music and it paid off! They beautifully sang together....even some difficult 2 part songs.
5th graders thank you for making Mrs. Burnett, your family and hopefully yourself proud as you performed your last elementary performance!
After the 5th grade performance the choir performed for parents and friends! They have been working hard every Friday morning for this concert. We have been singing WInter/Christmas songs since September and were finally glad to be able to sing for an audience.
Choir will not meet for the rest of the 2022 year! Enjoy some time sleeping in on Fridays!

Notes from Your School Nurse
Accidents happen, so please send a change of clothes with your student in their backpack. We do have some spare clothes in the health room, but sizes are limited, and we may not have something to fit the student. If that happens, we have to call the parents and have them bring in a fresh change of clothes.
(If you happen to have some stretchy pants that your student has outgrown, we will happily take them off your hands and add them to our closet!)
In true Midwest fashion, the weather is going from warm, to cold, to unbearable, and back to warm all in the same day. Dressing in layers work so kiddos can shed the heavy sweaters when they get too warm. Don’t forget to send a warm coat, hat, and mittens/gloves for recess.
Even in the winter, people can still be dehydrated. Don’t forget to send your student with a water bottle so they can have easy access to water. Water is life!
Flu season has been upon us for about a month now, and doesn’t seem to be letting up. If your student is running a fever, do not send them to school. If they have a fever, do not medicate with a fever-reducer and send them to school. Medications will only mask a fever, and that fever can return once the med wears off. Please do not sent your student to school until they are been 24 hours fever free.
If a child experiences vomiting within 24 hours prior to school, they should not come to school. Keep them home, and hydrated. The same applies to severe diarrhea.
Also, a reminder to parents that the health room cannot give out cough drops or throat lozenges unless a parent furnishes them. Same goes for Tylenol, Motrin, or any other over-the-counter medication.
As always, my door is always open if you have any questions. Feel free to stop by. I also answer emails and phone calls as well.

Help Your Child Succeed In School
Did you know?
Siegrist has an attendance committee, made up of school administrators, a school counselor, the school social worker and an administrative assistant. We review student attendance data that falls below 90% each month. It is important that parents know if their child(ren)’s attendance falls below 90%. School personnel work with the student and family to help improve school attendance.
Your call in when your student is away from the building is very important and we thank you for this. Please continue to call in (816-858-5977) any time your child will be absent from school. Calling outside normal office hours, no problem! Leave a message indicating the student’s name, grade, teacher and reason for absence.
Our November, 2022 average student attendance rate fell, however we have seen much sickness. Your child’s health and wellness is important to us. Please see the health room reminders in this newsletter.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Continue to ask your child questions about his/her learning.
Spend time with your child(ren) and know that what you say and do matters greatly to your child.
Help your child to be ready for school each morning by setting up routines that allow them to have a positive start to the day.
