January 21st - February 21st
During this time, parents and relatives of Wiedy students may purchase a book for the library in honor of their child's birthday!
Purchasing a book for the library through this program is great way to get new books in the library collection. It is also a special way to leave a Wiedy legacy! These books are treasured for years!
If you are interested in participating in this program, please visit https://www.btsb.com/sosl/ogwiedersteinel6 and choose your book donation from the Wish List. For more information about the program, book summaries, and book plate examples, visit the library's webpage.
The library is not just for checking out books!
FIRST - We are learning how to read the call number (a.k.a. "call number") of books. Students can find a book from the Everybody Section all by themselves! We are also learning to find books with a Dewey Decimal System number.
SECOND - We are learning how to use an iPad to access and read eBooks from the library's catalog. Students can also read our eBooks at home!
THIRD - We are using iPads to learn about and find books belonging to the Dewey Decimal System. It's a "Dewey Scavenger Hunt!"
FOURTH - We are using technology to learn a bit about different authors. Students find books by an author, use an iPad to scan a QR code, then read about the author to answer a question. Students are really enjoying this activity!
**Both 3rd & 4th graders may participate in Makerspaces on their own time during the school day. We have discussed procedures and students are having a lot of fun creating, coding, building, and learning while playing!
Six Flags Reading Program
I sincerely apologize for any confusion I may have caused with this program! The reading program changed how they "do things" this year, and I am learning as I go.
This program is now only an online reading program. Students must have an account set up. Minutes are logged using the online account. I made a "fake account" to see what it looks from the parent's perspective, and personally, I found it very easy to do. Reading minutes can be recorded on a computer, tablet, or phone, so it's pretty convenient!
You have until March 6th (Friday before Spring Break) to log minutes your child reads. They must have at least 360 minutes to earn a free ticket to Six Flags Fiesta Texas.
If you do not have access to a computer to log minutes, feel free to use a library computer. Thank you for your understanding!
