January Meeting Minutes
Congrats to Mr. Anthony Galvan, New DCDDC Chairperson!
The DCDDC voted in as new chairperson Mr. Anthony Galvan. Mr. Galvan is Associate Director for Research and Operations at the Institute for Urban Policy Research at the University of Texas at Dallas with primary responsibility over quantitative projects with a focus on program evaluation and public policy research in the areas of education, public health, economic security, crime, and safety. In this position, he has worked on a variety of projects, including the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas: United 2020 Initiative and the Beyond ABC report for Children's Medical Center of Dallas, as well as projects for a variety of other North Texas nonprofits and local government agencies. He has made several conference presentations on the topics of demography, suburbanization, public health, and data use for nonprofit evaluation.
Congrats to Dr. Connie Wilson-New DCDDC Co-chairperson!
The DCDDC voted in as new co-chair -Dr.Connie Wilson. Dr. Wilson has an extensive educational background including a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Dayton, A Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Texas, and a Doctorate in Child and Educational Psychology from Texas Women’s University. Dr. Wilson worked with the Dallas Public School system from 1996 to 2014. Positions she held while at Dallas Public Schools include Director of the Office of Interagency Collaboration, Director of Community Education, Licensed Psychologist focused on Special Projects and Psychological Services, and the head of the Department of Psychological and Social Services. Dr. Wilson made it her life’s work to address critical psychological and social needs of children and family.
Assessment for Fair Housing (AFH) Report and Information-Your Input is Needed.

USDE CIVIL RIGHTS GUIDANCE FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
U.S. Department of Education Releases Guidance on Civil Rights of Students with Disabilities

The U.S. Department of Education released three new sets of guidance today to assist the public in understanding how the Department interprets and enforces federal civil rights laws protecting the rights of students with disabilities. These guidance documents clarify the rights of students with disabilities and the responsibilities of educational institutions in ensuring that all students have the opportunity to learn.
Improving Equity Under IDEA
The U.S. Department of Education published, in the Federal Register, the final regulations to improve equity in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and to address widespread disparities in the treatment of students of color with disabilities.

About us
To help us achieve this goal, representatives from health and human services agencies, community representatives, leaders, parents, and youth join us in an advisory capacity. Our vision is to create a system in which children, youth, families and other vulnerable citizens’ best interest are met and they have a strong, informing voice. Inclusive partnerships and shared leadership across systems and the community will help us realize the vision for the children, youth and families for whom system improvement efforts exist.
Meetings will be held from 2:00-3:30pm at Dallas CASA 2757 Swiss Ave., Dallas, TX 75204 on the second Thursday of each month with the exception of August and December or as approved by the committee members.
