A Note from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you so much for attending Curriculum/ Meet the Teachers Nights as well as the ESL and Title I meetings last week. We were able to introduce our teachers and staff, share information about classroom curricula and testing, discuss special programs and activities, and review important student conduct and safety reminders. As always, if you have any questions about any of the information, please let me know or you may contact the front office.
Several student activities are scheduled for this Friday, September 27th. First, the 12th graders will celebrate the beginning of their journey as seniors at the Senior Sunrise. They will have breakfast together and watch the sunrise at 7:19 AM. Throughout the day, all students will celebrate Character Day. Teachers will include character building activities in their lessons. Students will help decide which character traits best represent our school. Finally, the middle school students will have a great time at their Back-to-School Bash from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the gym.
We are still scheduling home visits this week. If you would like to schedule a home visit with your child's teacher or with an administrator, please contact the front office or email our engagement coordinator, Ms. Knieling, at (jknieling@harmonytx.org). I am also available to visit your home! You may request a home visit with me, and I will gladly accept the invitation!
Thank you,
Have a wonderful week.

Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Information
In accordance with the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented students, Harmony Public Schools will begin taking referrals for kindergarten and newly-enrolled students in grades 1-12 for gifted and talented screening. Anyone interested in the educational welfare of these students may refer them for assessment.
Referral forms are available at the front office and on the school's web site. The forms must be returned to the front office by Friday, September 27, 2019. The assessment period will begin on Tuesday, October 1, 2019.
Criteria for Gifted/Talented Pre-screening
Our campus uses NWEA MAP as a pre-screening criterion for CogAT testing (GT Student Handbook page 7). Students are eligible to be tested (CogAT) for the Gifted/Talented program (criterion varies for students enrolled in Special Programs) if the student's percentile rank of any of the NWEA MAP scores in Reading, Math or Science is greater or equal to 80 (NWEA MAP score at the 80th percentile).
At this time, if your child’s MAP scores do not meet the criterion of the pre-screening process, he/she will not be considered for our Gifted/Talented program. You may consider nominating your child again during the next applicable nomination window.
Home Visits
Harmony School of Excellence is proud to participate in the Home Visit Program! Home Visits build relationships between the school and the home in order to better meet the needs of students. During a Home Visit, teachers will briefly review your child's academic progress, discuss any upcoming school events and extracurricular activities, and answer any questions that you may have regarding your child or the school.
We want to visit as many of our families as possible this year. Teachers and staff will be calling or emailing parents to schedule brief 15-20 minute Home Visits on Saturday, October 5th. If this dates does not work for your family, you are welcome to request another date. We hope to see you at home!
