This week our class will be reading stories about sorting different groups of things in new ways. Children will learn how to sort objects by size, shape, color, weight, or texture.
Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we will be practicing.
Word Workout
- Vocabulary: sort, similar Put a pile of multishaped and multi-colored blocks on the floor. Invite your child to sort the blocks by color and by shape.
- My Words to Know
High-Frequency Word: come, does Write the words come and does on paper. Then have your child write each word. Write sentences using each word. Have your child read the sentences aloud. Ask your child to circle the words come and does.
Category Words: opposites Say a word and ask your child to think of a word with the opposite meaning.
Phonics: long e Play a rhyming game with your child. Say a word with the long e sound, and have your child think of a rhyming word. For example, encourage your child to say and write words that rhyme with the word he, such as me, be, and we.
Comprehension: key details
Ask your child to draw a line from one object in the left column to a similar object in the right column.
Important Information
-Kindergarten students are traveling to Columbiaville on Friday morning to tour the school, no parents needed.
-Kindergarten celebration, June 14th @ 9:30
-Last day of school, June 15th
-This is our last week for literacy bags. I will fill literacy bags with paper leveled reading books on Friday. Students will be allowed to keep the bags at that time.
