Principal's Corner
Hello Meadow Park Families,
The weather has turned beautiful and with that awesome change it is easy to notice that many students begin to think about the ending of the school year. Focusing in class can be difficult when it looks so nice outside. When combined with a recognition that there are only about 25 days of school left, it can be a challenge to both attend school and work diligently to the end of the year.
This past Tuesday, we shared with staff a list of students that are hovering near 90% attendance for the year. There is a great deal of research that suggests that students missing 10 or fewer days in the course of the year is a key indicator of future academic success. For those at 90%, they are already approaching 15 missed days of school. The patterns developed at middle school often carry into high school, so I would like to encourage all students and families to make it a point to be here each and every day until the end of the school year. Your support in getting your child to school each day is appreciated. On our end, the teachers and counselors will be checking in with students that are hovering in that 90% range and encouraging them to finish strong.
Our staff is planning and working hard to end the year positively and productively. We have five weeks of school left and need to use every minute to ensure our students get the education they deserve. That said, our final two days of school will provide some opportunities for celebration and reflection. On Thursday, June 13th our 8th graders will have their 8th grade party. On Friday, June 14th we will have a schoolwide assembly to recognize our 8th graders (usually from 9:30 to 10:30) and a field day celebration for all students. The 8th grade assembly is not a graduation ceremony, but parents who have students being recognized may choose to attend. More details to come in a future update.
Make it a great week!
