Program Planning
We are excited to share the 2023-2024 PVHS Program Planning Guide and to initiate conversations with our students about course selections for next year. The 2023-2024 Programming Planning Guide can be accessed on the High School webpage, under “Academics.” It includes several updates from last year’s version. Also on the High School webpage, you will find information about graduation pathways, North Montco Technical Career Center, and subject area departments.
For the 2023-2024 school year, the high school will offer several new courses that your child may want to consider. These include Piano, Music Composition, Select Choir, and AP PreCalculus. In addition to the new courses, we have made revisions to several existing course names, such as Art courses for example, to more accurately reflect the course content. We have also expanded the Education at Work course to include job site visits.
Another significant change reflected in the guide is a reduction in the number of levels of courses offered. Currently, the high school offers academic, college preparatory, honors, and AP levels courses. As we continue our commitment to providing all students with a rigorous learning experience, the high school is eliminating the academic level courses for all English and Social Studies classes. This level has previously been eliminated in Mathematics and most Science courses. With the elimination of the academic level will come the creation of core level classes, for example English 11 (Core level) or US History II (Core level). Honors level classes will continue to be offered and identified for example, as English 11 Honors or US History II Honors.
We look forward to providing our students with a rigorous learning experience in the upcoming 2023-24 school year. The updates to the Program Planning Guide will contribute to achieving this outcome. Our teachers will continue to deliver best practices of instruction and work with students who require additional support. We have lots to offer and will do all that we can to support the success of your child as they progress through their high school experience.
As a note, the High School’s annual 8th Grade Parent Night for parents of rising 9th graders is scheduled for February 22 at 6:30 pm at the High School.

Spring sports registration must occur by FEBRUARY 21.
First day of Varsity, JV, and Freshman Spring Sports Tryouts MARCH 6.
If the spring sports season will be the first sport of participation at PV this school year: Registration for spring sports must occur by February 21. This can be done at http://www.planeths.com. In addition to registering, student-athletes must have a PIAA physical examination done by a doctor and the proper paperwork completed by the doctor. In order to count for the 2023 school year, the physical must occur June 1, 2022 or later. The form is found on www.planeths.com when you register.
If the spring sports season is your second or third sport season this school year: Complete section 8 Spring Recertification at http://www.planeths.com by February 21. The Spring Recertification form will populate in your profile after February 1. If there has been a change to your health history or an injury since completing your last physical, an additional section 9 form is required as well. This does require a clearance from a doctor.
Flexible Instruction Days
As the weather begins to turn, I thought it best to remind everyone about the possibility of FIDs (Flexible Instructional Days) in response to inclement weather. After utilizing all three (3) built-in inclement weather days, the District may implement a FID to provide virtual instruction to students. FIDs assist schools in meeting the required 180 student days while avoiding the need to extend the instructional calendar year. PA Schools may use up to five (5) FIDs per school year.
