Sigler Elementary Monday Memo

Week of March 23rd

CONNECTING

Our theme at Sigler Elementary this year is "connecting". Each week we will capture images of our Sigler Community connecting in four vital areas; curriculum, community, students and staff. We will showcase the images below for all to enjoy and remind ourselves of the power of a connectivity!

What are People Saying about the Staff and Students at Sigler Elementary

As the Principal at Sigler Elementary, folks are always commenting on how great our staff and students are and I wanted to share those statements with you!

"There are so many amazing teachers here at Sigler!! We had good discussions with former teachers of students adding anecdotes, etc. to help us make informed decisions."

"I love how the staff is so willing to share their creative ideas. Sharing is definitely caring, and you can tell that the Sigler staff cares about ALL students, not just the ones at Sigler."

Staff Spotlight - Mrs. Gina Frederiksen - Special Education Teacher

Each week, staff members at Sigler Elementary have opportunity to be in the "spotlight" and share a little bit about themselves with our readers.

Get to Know Mrs. Frederiksen - Special Education Teacher

I was born and raised in Temple, Texas. After graduating from high school, I attended Southern Methodist University and received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I then went on to obtain my master’s degree in Developmental and Educational Psychology from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA. I am married with two children, a 9 year-old bookworm and 7 year-old sports enthusiast, and our ferocious poodle, Peruna.

Working with children has always been my calling. Before becoming a Special Education teacher, I worked as a Child Life Specialist in a Pediatric ICU and as a case manager at a domestic violence shelter. I began my teaching career in Plano ISD and have never left. I feel so fortunate to work for a school district that is committed to the education of every child. This is my first year at Sigler Elementary and I am continually amazed at the innovation and collaboration that occurs at this campus on a daily basis.

I’m a huge fan of books, beaches, and anything Disney. On the weekends, you can find me listening to my kids extol on the virtues of Minecraft (and why they should be able to play it all day long), cheering on my beloved Mustangs with my dad, and enjoying a yoga class. #Nameste

AVID - Advancement Via Individual Determination

Each week we are going to highlight an AVID strategy that you can incorporate into your routine in the classroom or parents can discuss with students at home.

Embedded within AVID is the mindset that all students will have the opportunity to attend college. They will be prepared for a post secondary education upon graduation from Plano ISD.

The cost of college can be overwhelming, but we do not want the cost of college to be the reason a student is not able to attend.

You are invited to attend an informational session: College Savings and Funding Strategies on Tuesday, April 7 at 6:30PM.

Dinner and childcare will be available.

For more information about AVID, staff can find the AVID folder on the shared drive: Sigler: AVID
