"Together We Can"
From Ms. Butler's Desk
Dear Knight Family,
I would like to take a moment to say thank you to all of the men and women who bravely serve in our military. Freedom isn't free. It is because of the brave men and women of our US Military that provide us with the freedoms we so richly enjoy. Although I have never served in the military, I come from a military family. My grandfather served in the Army during World War II, my uncle served in the Navy during Desert Storm, my brother and sister-in-law found love in the Navy, and my sister is actively serving in Air Force. I have always been so proud of my family when we went to military events with them. The sense of pride and honor that exudes from serving our country is proudly displayed. It fills us with so much pride that we can give back to our Veterans.
Week Recap
This week has been amazing for our team. We have made a lot of accomplishments. We had our first basketball game, had spirit night at Panda Express, held our annual Veterans Day program, and completed vision and hearing. We appreciate your support in all of our events.
Big Thanks to our PTO Volunteers
I wanted to say thank you to all the parent volunteers this week. We could not have made this week work without your support during the last two days. I appreciate each and every one of you that helped with our Veterans Day program, our screenings, and our hot lunch. A special shout out to Mrs. Castellani for hosting our Veterans Day program. You did an amazing job.

Open Enrollment--New Scholars
Our campus officially begins the new student application season for the 2022-23 school year. Families of any new student should complete the application for enrollment at ResponsiveEd.com/Enroll before the deadline on February 4. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of available spaces for students in a particular grade, enrollment will be determined by a lottery held in February. Please share the application link with your friends and family, or make sure you complete the application for any children in your family not yet enrolled at our school.
Again, if your children are already enrolled at our school, no action is needed at this time. Current families will have an opportunity to inform us of their intention to return for the 2022-23 school year during re-enrollment (January 3 - January 28). If you have any questions please contact admissions and enrollment personnel on campus.
School Dismissal Manager--Register
If you have not set up your SDM account, the time to do so is now. Carline moves quicker when parents check into carline rather than waiting for a staff member to sign them in. I have an article below to assist you with setting up your account. For elementary carline parents, please sign in at the middle of the parking lot. For JH carline parents, please sign in at the side gate on your right. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. If you need help with SDM, contact Mrs. Kim Lucas at klucas@responsiveedtx.com or 936-242-1541.
Doctor’s Note after an Absence for Illness
If your child is out due to an illness that extends beyond three days will require a doctor’s note. Upon return to school, a student absent for more than three consecutive days because of a personal illness must bring a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s extended absence from school. Otherwise, the student’s absence may be considered unexcused and if so, would be in violation of compulsory attendance laws.

Apple and Android Apps Have Returned!
Brought back by popular, parent demand to the Apple and Android app stores, we have added native apps for an efficient, streamlined, and familiar SDM experience.
SDM native apps are available for parents to download from the Apple and Android app stores, in addition to the PWA which started off the school year. With all three options available, along with the mobile website, parents now have more choices than ever to choose the option that works best for them and their device!
We hope that this much-anticipated return to the app stores becomes a great asset to your parents as they continue to use SDM to manage daily dismissal changes. Please let us know if you have any questions or need any assistance and have a great week!
Regards,
The SDM Management Team

Habit 3: Put First Things First
Understanding the Habit
Put First Things First means to decide what is most important and to take care of that first. Thinking about what needs to be done tomorrow or by the end of the week can be overwhelming, especially for children. Learning to think of which things are the most important and taking care of them first allows children to be less stressed.
Future Skills that can be learned by put first things first
- I spend time on things that are most important. This means I say no to things I know I should not do.
- I set priorities, make a schedule, and follow my plan.
- I am disciplined and organized.
Habit 3: a family exercise in putting first things first
Habit 3®: Put First Things First, is a habit about priorities. We all juggle multiple hats in our lives, whether it be professional or personal, we need to develop habits that help us manage the day-to-day. Habit 3 talks in-depth about “Big Rocks” and “Little Rocks” in our lives.
“Big Rocks” are the most important things for you to do, such as spending time with your family or getting an education. “Little Rocks” are the less important things for you to do, such as watching T.V., or aimlessly searching the Internet.
So, whether Habit 3 is new to you, or engraved in your memory, let’s take a moment to reflect on this habit. For me, Habit 3 means making time for my family. As you read, take the time to reflect on what Habit 3 means to you. What do Habit 1 and Habit 2 mean to you?
See the Family Exercise Worksheet below.
