Unity Preschool News
Welcome to Unity Preschool
Finally......we are ALMOST BACK! It has brought back the feelings of excitement I had as a young child waiting impatiently for Christmas morning. Will it it ever arrive? I know I speak for the entire Unity Staff that we have missed our classrooms and we have missed your children. We are so excited to begin this school year with you!
Our Staff has been working extraordinarily hard the last few months preparing policies, procedures and classrooms to make sure our children and families have the safest and best learning environment possible. We understand that all of you have had to deal with unexpected burdens due to the pandemic. Our hope is to remove any uncertainty about your child's safety while at Unity Preschool. Your children are precious gifts and we are committed to their welfare. Thank you for trusting your child's preschool education and faith building to us. We are grateful for your generous and heartfelt support and for your patience, flexibility and understanding during these uncertain and challenging times. We are excited about helping your child have a year filled with learning, adventure, friendship, and fun! Above all we ask that you continue to keep Unity Preschool in your prayers and we will keep all of you in our prayers.
Unity Preschool Staff 2020-21
Ms. Becca: Becca Haltiwanger and her husband, Jeremy, have three children. Her boys, Skylar and Reese, are both Unity Preschool graduates and now attend Fort Mill Elementary School. Her daughter, Hattie, will be in Ms. Lauren's Three's class. Ms. Becca taught second grade for four years in Belmont, North Carolina before choosing to stay home with her children. The Haltiwanger family are active members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill. Ms. Becca loves to read and spend time outside with her family. Ms. Becca will be working with Ms. Sarah in the Three's (Monkey) classroom.
Ms. Brandi: Brandi Laughter (rhymes with "daughter') and her husband, Brentley, relocated to Fort Mill last summer from the South Asheville area. They have three busy boys: Brent (14) who attends Gold Hill Middle School and Jack (9) and Will (7) who attend Gold Hill Elementary School. All three boys enjoy baseball so Ms. Brandi's family can found at the ball fields on most weekends. Ms. Brandi taught Preschool at Arden Presbyterian Preschool for four years and prior to that was a Pharmacy Technician. She will be working with Ms. Kellie in the Four's (Owl) classroom.
Ms. Sonia (f/k/a Coach Sonia): Sonia Rimonti is not a stranger to Unity Preschool. She was our Playball coach last year! Ms. Sonia relocated to Charlotte from Montreal with her husband, Michael, and two children, Michael (10) and Abbygayl (7). Michael attends Banks Trail Middle School and Abbygayl attends Doby's Bridge Elementary School. Ms. Sonia is fluent in FOUR languages: French, Italian, English and Greek! Ms. Sonia loves her children, travelling and sushi and does NOT miss snow. Ms. Sonia will be working with Ms. Lauren in the Three's (Frogs) class this year.
Returning Staff: Ms. Lauren and Ms. Sarah will be returning to our Three's program, although Ms. Sarah will be assisting Ms. Becca this year. Ms. Danielle, our former Two's Assistant, will be assisting Ms. Heather in the Four's (Fish) class and Ms. Kellie will be assisting Ms. Brandi in our Four's (Owl) class. Ms. Carolyn will be working in the Preschool Office on Mondays and will serve as a substitute along with Ms. Linda who returns for her 12th year at Unity Preschool.
Vaccination Record Reminder
One of the important policies that our Unity Preschool Advisory Board adopted effective this school year is a vaccination requirement. Some of you turned in your vaccination records before the school year ended last year. Please remember that we will be collecting those and would like to receive them by October 15th. Please send them with your child the first week of school or you may scan/e-mail them to email@example.com . We recognize that well visits may be off schedule due to COVID-19, so if you still need to schedule a well-visit for your child this year, please let Ms. Linda know. If you cannot remember if you turned in record for your child, we will be putting reminders in the parent packets of those we still need.
Although not a required vaccination, it is strongly encouraged by the medical profession that you and your child receive the flu vaccine this year.
It will be essential this year to maintain good communication and to keep your children home if they are not feeling well or if you have an immediate family member who has tested positive for COVID-19. Our Staff has been busy preparing "home school" packets that we can use if an extended quarantine situation is necessary.
Back to School Items
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL: Your teacher will be sending an e-mail or posting on SeeSaw your child's first day of school information. The first day of school will be either Tuesday, October 6 or Wednesday October 7. If you have a preference, please let your teacher know. Remember all students will attend Thursday, October 8.
PARENT PACKETS: When you bring your child to his/her first day of school, you will receive a blue parent packet that has your car tags, paperwork to complete and return, our calendar and handbook, and lots of health/COVID-19 information. You may keep this at home for reference.
CAR LINE: Morning car line will begin the week of October 12. Next week you may park and walk your child to the playground classroom door for Three's and the front door for Four's. Afternoon car line will begin the first day of school. We begin loading our Three's at 11:55 and our Four's at 12:10. You will find car tags and a car line map in your parent packet that you will receive when you bring your child his/her first day.
SUPPLY LIST: An e-mail was recently sent from Ms. Linda with the Supply List. You can also find it on our Unity Preschool website under the "More" tab. Please bring these items with you on your child's first day of school. Individual Items will be placed in your child's supply box that Unity Preschool will provide. Community items will be used by the Staff as needed. If you have any questions, please e-mail me.
BACK UP CLOTHES: Please send a ziploc bag with some back-up clothes for your child in case of an accident. These will remain in the classroom. We find the children are much happier if they can put on their own clothes if an accident occurs.
Just reminder that your October tuition payment will be withdrawn from your accounts this Thursday, October 1st.
