Weekly Update 1/24/2019
At Eastridge Elementary our mission is to develop a community of lifelong learners who will positively impact society.
HEALTHY CELEBRATIONS
While we love to celebrate , please remember that there is a “no birthday treats “ guideline. To access fun and helpful resources for healthy celebration ideas please visit the district wellness policy by clicking on this link. Also note that no birthday invitations are allowed to be distributed at school. It is school policy.
Fast Food
Thank you to all the families who came out in the blistering cold to do STEM activities with us last week! A good time was had by all!
Please bundle your students up and send them to school every day. As my awesome staff begins to dig into the MOY (middle of the year) NWEA results and begin the work of preparing small group lessons geared to your child(ren) academic needs it is very important that they attend school daily. Our goal is for every student attending Eastridge to gain a year's growth in reading and math, if not more. Our data shows that many of our students are well on their way to this goal, some have already met this goal, and some need more time to meet this goal. I can assure you that our teachers are working diligently to make sure all of our students are learning at an appropriate rate. Thursday we celebrated 100 school days, which means we have 79 school days left to educate your child and prepare them for the next grade. I can not stress enough how important it is for your child to come to school on time every day. We start instruction promptly at 9:00AM (breakfast/announcements/ morning work (for some students this includes small group work) 8:30AM-9:00AM). Reminder that students need to be in their seats ready to learn by 8:30AM. Students are marked tardy after the 8:40 bell.
Thank you for all that you do!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Johnson
Counseling Digest
A school counselor IS NOT a therapist, social worker, or other mental health provider. While I do see students in groups and individually - serious concerns are often referred out. Sometimes that can get confusing, so I wanted to get the right info out there. I am always available by phone if ever you’re interested in meeting to discuss student needs. I work very closely with Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Wilson to offer the best support option for your student.
This Friday I will send home a flyer outlining an opportunity to meet some of the staff at McDonald's to discuss important information about Eastridge and how we can better support your child. Please return the bottom portion of the flyer if you are interested in chatting with us.
STAY WARM! It is supposed to be getting very cold into next week!
Stephen Phillips
(317) 532-3178
I hope you are all finding ways to stay warm and stay busy during this cold snap. I know that the kids are feeling the effects of being cooped up for indoor recess, and I know that many teachers are working hard to be creative with building movement/ brain breaks in throughout the day and finding cooperative activities for students to engage in during recess time.
Last week, Community/ CORE Time was focused on helping students learn to deal with anger. Mr. Phillips visited classrooms with lessons based on the curriculum "Zones of Regulation", which helps teach kids how to identify the emotions that they are experiencing and match strategies to help them work through their emotions. (If you would like more information on "Zones of Regulation" or the lessons being taught, please reach out to myself or Mr. Phillips. We would be happy to share.) This week's lessons will focus on solving social problems. Please ask your child what he/she is learning during Community Time.
Please keep an eye out for any weather delays this week, as the temperatures are forecasted to be very chilly.
Have an amazing week!
